Pros

Great 8-week paid training. Nice people.

Cons

They have a great vision that's easy to get excited about, but it's not actually happening on a practical level. They've attempted to promote management so quickly to fill in with the growth that they're promoting untrained, unqualified, incompetent managers in some divisions. (While other divisions have strong management.) They offer no benefits. No salary, just draw. No training with some builders (Maronda.)

Pros

The chance to make money was attractive. The lure of real estate was exciting. The hiring manager gave us data that suggested the real estate market was rebounding in 2015, and this was a ground floor opportunity to get in early and make a six figure living. Who wouldn't want that?! Thats the bummer with promises - you can't take them to the bank.

Cons

We did not get training like these recently placed (and well marketed) reviewers did. It's very funny that after one bad review, a handful of similarly written reviews were posted here to bury the one review that was pretty spot-on. I was asked to write in my own voice because this forum is supposed to be honest, and not employer or marketing staff driven. If NHS valued all independent contractors the same, there would be no bad reviews. I'm happy some of you are enjoying the work, and making money. But for us, we did not have the same experience as you recent posters. Doesn't mean we didn't put in the same time, or more, as you. Doesn't mean we weren't as committed as you. Doesn't even mean we didn't enjoy the work. We did all we could. We had zero experience and were promised training. We were promised sales models that were never constructed. (Until 14 months after a rental sales office opened) We were given a set of keys and left to fend for ourselves on our first day there and with no experience. Together, the sales staff had to try and figure it all out. We were not given access to the NHS portal until our third month there -- THIRD MONTH! The portal is the lifeline to success and you positive reviewers have all stated that! Our manager spent THREE DAYS on site with us in 6 months - that's it. From all I read here, it seems that we shared the same manager and it's obvious he was traveling and training all of you while we begged corporate for a lifeline. I'm not slamming you for being successful, just please realize that the management wasn't equally balanced across the board.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm sorry your experience was so negative. It is true that we rely on our local manager in each place to ensure that our team members get all of the support and training we promise. We also rely on technology that puts full support and training at your fingertips. We consider it a 'belt and suspenders' approach. Since the time of your review, we have implemented strict processes that ensure every new team member has access to our national sales platform immediately. We have also continued to pour into the development of our managers, and have installed an additional level of support to them. If you left on good terms and are ever looking to make another move, I'd invite you to give us another try. There is no excuse for us doing as poorly as you describe in your review, but I am confident that it could not happen again. At this point in our company's maturation, I believe it is impossible to not get training and support in every division under every manager. I am sincerely sorry that we failed you while you were here.

Pros

Sometimes can work remote. Sometimes get free food and alcohol (because they’re big on their drinks). You won’t feel like you fit in if you’re not always getting drinks after work or at events.

Cons

Huge red flag when employees kept referring to this place as their “second family”. This might initially be perceived as a sweet sentiment but this can be a classic signal of manipulative management. You work long hours, lots of overtime and experience a lack of boundaries. The result? You spend less time with your ACTUAL family while you try to please your professional one.

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your employment experience. At New Home Star, we pride ourselves on our excellent company culture, so this review caught us off guard, and we are very sorry to hear that you felt excluded during your time here. Many of our employees have developed close relationships and spend time together outside work. We believe our employees deeply value these relationships and genuinely care about each other. Our leaders do not use personal relationships to manipulate our employees. We have many positions within New Home Star, some more demanding than others, but we value and respect personal time and strive to foster work-life balance. We host various events within our organization, most of which do not include alcohol. Occasionally, we host after-hours events onsite or offsite that have alcoholic beverages available for employees. We enforce a two-drink limit for these events. Based on the information you provided in your review, we urge you to reach out to humanresources@newhomestar.com with a detailed account of your experience so that we can better understand and address your concerns. Thank you again for your feedback.
