Pros

Pros: Somehow NextRoll really gets its people right. Across each office NextRoll employees from top to bottom are genuine, collaborative, intelligent and accessible...something I have yet to experience in any other role. Pays well, good benefits (company pays 100% of healthcare but no 401K matching), a lot of office wide events (e.g. Monday night dinners).

Cons

Cons: Management pretty much cares about lining up a good story for a pending IPO. Hello - the days of significant valuations for tech and media companies are no longer a thing. NextRoll abruptly got rid of about 30% of its 400+ workforce at the end of March to be on track to meet the revenue numbers they projected earlier in the year (before the pandemic...really?) and to exceed the revenue numbers they had last year (a year with a whole PR push of company rebranding with newer B2B services, product updates, and...guess what? No pandemic lol). Bottom line, if it’s not a good story for its IPO efforts, NextRoll wants no part...even if it’s employees of all ranks who’ve given great service to the company throughout the years

Eroding culture

Pros

Great colleagues and direct managers

Cons

Senior leadership is completely out of touch and lost all faith from employees. 4 rounds of layoffs in the span of 12 months says it all. Each time leadership promised “this is the last time” and it turned out to be a lie. The worst was the most recent layoffs let go about 20% of the workforce A MONTH AFTER THEY SECURED $50M IN ADDITIONAL FUNDING. To top it all off, now they are forcing employees to take PTO because it’s a “financial liability” to the company if you accrue too many hours. AKA if they have another round of layoffs, they don’t want to pay off your high PTO balance… This all happens when the company insists that it has a healthy cash balances. It’s truly sad what has occurred here over the last year.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and highlighting great colleagues and direct managers as a positive benefit of working at NextRoll. Hiring great people and helping them grow is one of our core values, and we invest time and resources into developing our Rollers and managers. We've taken your feedback onboard regarding the impact the recent business decisions have had on our culture. We acknowledge that these past 12 months have been a difficult period for NextRoll, as we have had to part ways with outstanding Rollers. While incredibly difficult, these decisions have been necessary to set the business up for success now and in the future. We are eager to continue to work together with our Rollers on putting the positive things about our culture back in the spotlight as we move forward. Thanks, again, for your feedback. I encourage you to reach out to your manager, your People Business Partner, or me, if you have further feedback or questions we can answer to provide you with additional context. - Amy LeBold, EVP, People Experience

Ask yourself why this 13+ year old company isn't larger and/or more successful

Pros

This company has a lot of snacks

Cons

I'm not sure where to begin. There's a "Boy's Club" at the top.. literally. Look at leadership of the company No 401(k) matching... again employees have been asking for this for years yet still not a thing. (again think of a 12+ year old company, in the Bay Area, that isn't offering this) Software Bloat - The internal infrastructure of this company hasn't been maintained or updated in years and makes it almost impossible to accurately track performance KPI's The HR team is open to providing confidential information at the drop of a hat. You have a conflict - well they'll tell you exactly who made a complaint about you and tell you to deal with it yourself. No Solid Strategy for the entire company. There has been a push for "IPO" in the past two years... but no talk about HOW to actually achieve that. "Product, product, product" has been the only answer. Not - "We're looking to target specific audiences with this PRODUCT, and we're going to have the sales team do [thing 1], [thing 2], [thing 3] in an effort to grow market share XYZ." Nothing with that level of detail or understanding has been provided... just chanting "IPO!"
