Pros

Discount. The discount is amazing. There are some really great ICs to work with. If you don't like your manager, you'll have a new one within a year tops. I've had 3 in under a year. If their name is Nordstrom, you know they are good people. Really easy to get hired -- easiest interview I've ever had.

Cons

If you like your manager, you'll have a new one within a year tops. There are a few extraordinarily bad managers/leaders. Yuri K is good, as are others, but there are some that vary from well meaning but incompetent, to outright high school favoritism/politics complete with backstabbing being the best way to advance your career. Constant departures. Don't expect to be working with the same team for long, cause someone is gonna leave.

Pros

Good benefits, nice colleagues, at times excellent work/life balance, open-door policy, overall management supports staff and promotes a culture of listening. Excellent merchandisers. Great discount. Decent pay. Fantastic bonus potential. Great leaders at the very top. Deeply respect Nordstrom as a retailer.

Cons

No management training which results in poor quality, immature & ineffective managers (varies within department) that drive out talented employees across all departments. Management is allowed to behave unprofessionally because of non-confrontational culture. Bullies thrive here. Environment is highly passive-aggressive and inefficient. Corporate offices are uninspiring and lack work space & cleanliness. Design is not supported or respected. Success is not measured by actual output/work but instead by people relations and ability to manage the emotions of the boss. Not a place for productive & passionate designers accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment- for majority, this is a "job". Design offices are in Seattle; isolated from fashion. No inspiration or factory travel for designers or senior designers. Extremely rigid calendar. Archaic technology. No diversity. Very hands-off environment. Design department is overworked but other areas spend much of their day on Facebook, work 4-days a week and leave before 5pm.

Pros

- Amazing discount (20% or 33%, goes up to 40% at various times in the year) - Employee only sample sales to get some designer stuff at a ridiculous discount - $100 transit subsidy - ESPP - Work/life balance is generally excellent -- rare to see emails after 5pm or on weekends. Majority of those in tech don't even put work email on their phone because it's not necessary - My base salary pay was competitive but I understand that's not typically the case. If you push for it, it can be possible - Downtown location is great -- lots of choices for lunch and you're just blocks away from Pike Place Market. There's a nice patio on the 17th floor of the building with amazing views and is a good spot to de-compress briefly - Onsite massage offered twice a week - Major community involvement--lots of opportunities to volunteer and Nordstrom will match your charitable donations. - Changes described in the Cons section is driven by a desire by the Tech org to evolve and improve upon itself organizationally (how it's implemented is another story...)

Cons

- Lots of transition, I've seen many in leadership (directors, VPs, etc.) either be let go or leave on their own accord - Many changes in management in a short period of time - Feels like they are trying to chase after Amazon/Microsoft culture...but people come here to escape that. - Difficult to be proactive and look for other positions within the company - can be about who you know and methods of recruitment are inconsistent - Review model is odd with your bonus and base adjustment having little to do with your actual performance - Multiple tools for communication used across company (split between Slack, Hipchat, Skype) making it hard to know the best method of communication when reaching out cross-orgs - It feels like there has been major attrition for the last year, with goodbye emails being a regular weekly occurrence
