Pros

As a level 4 NICU with an excellent CVICU it was a great place to expand my skills! Plus, leadership was so toxic that the staff operates as a great team, helping each other out to protect each other from the wrath of management.

Cons

The leadership is INCREDIBLY toxic. There is a massive turnover of employees at all levels, from the C-Suite to the entry level. Other hospitals in the metro pay better and have better patient:nurse ratios. It wasn’t this bad when I started there, many years pre-Covid, but the massive cultural problems have started to badly affect morbidity and mortality. If you’re an employee with a license to protect, I’d avoid OU Children’s.

Nepotism and Discrimination

Pros

Interview process was easy to complete

Cons

Nepotism and discrimination run wild. Leadership is hiring their friends to replace existing employees without notice. HR doesn't provide complete or accurate information during orientation HR is not responsive when you reach out with basic questions about benefits, etc. They also refused to address requests for reasonable accommodations for a disability and instead terminated people without notice or cause after they ask for said accommodations (you may need to seek legal advice)

Pros

They will pay you when you work ridiculous hours

Cons

They have low resources and are very slow to respond in workforce crises, they have reneged on retirement commitments not only to their nursing staff but also to some of their physicians. Leadership doesn’t seem to have a clue as to what’s going on. The CEO (a physician) who came to Children’s couldn’t tell the difference between an ultrasound and an RFID scanner.
