Things That Make You Go Hmmmm...

Pros

Someone stated it before in a review and it is true that this could be a great company if people actually knew how to manage and run it. Started as a small and local company and grew to be large enough for Frito to get involved. Great. Business was looking up. Frito became disinterested in pushing product when jerky was produced cheaply out of the country and tasted like shoe leather. Oops. Business not so good and sales tanked. Oberto separated from Frito, quit production overseas, and changed the shoe leather formulation. Guess what? Sales only had one way to go afterwards and could have been managed and achieved by a monkey and a wannabe boxing midget. Oberto achieved the greatest success it ever experienced as a company. No big surprise due to the reformulation and redistribution arrangements. However, a new manufacturing plant and record high beef prices meant lower bottom-line profits. Or no profits as the company has seen lately. Can't even make enough money to pay the bills. There was interest and even an offer or two for the company to be purchased, but we all know how that turned out.

Cons

The people running this company have no business managing a 7-Eleven. Seriously. Who in their right mind allows Marketing and Finance to run an organization? Marketing... Just what are you guys smoking? I know it's legal in the state to smoke weed, but come on. Think a little bit. Market to the masses - for all people residing outside the backwards thinking "the not-so-great Pacific Northwest" who don't buy organic food, wear flannel shirts and socks with sandals, consume micro-beers, and have man buns. Use "famous" people in advertising people know and recognize beyond the Seattle area and "famous" people that are relevant. Don't use them because they are affordable. Think about it and ask yourself this question: how is a small company able to afford all these people? Because they are either only local celebrities or no longer relevant and just need the income. One great spokesperson is all you need. Heck, Art would have been great all along... like Dave from Wendy's and Colonel Sanders. ...eat this jerky and live to be 150 year old! Oh, and here's a joke for Marketing, and maybe for Finance too. OK, ready? Here goes... How many people does it take to screw in a light bulb? The only people not laughing is senior management right now! Apparently way too many. There are at least two people in Finance, quite possible three, that must have earned their prized MBAs by having the ability to empty out the box of Cracker Jacks to get to it at the bottom of the box. Each plays the political backstabbing game very well so they must have something on people higher up to not only maintain employment, but advance in position placement too. Focus, focus, focus.

Pros

There was a time when this was a great company to work for. Over a period of the last couple of years so many employees have either been fired or left, there is no longer that "Have Fun" culture. It was the employees that made this a great company to work for. So much of the culture has been lost its hard to say if it will ever come back.

Cons

No longer any trust that the executive team can bring this company to the next level. They need to walk the talk which is where they have always fallen short. Food safety programs have fallen short which in the end may be what brings this company down.

Pros

Work/Life Balance is great, people are pleasant in both administrative and plant level, project's tend to move fast, business is steadily building, input's are heard throughout and typically used. Product are improving

Cons

Pay is about average but not competitive, perks are very little, so many new people it feels like a disaster happened to this company a year or so ago. Products aren't that great
