Love the people. Hate the direction.

Pros

Freedom of schedule. The customer interaction is at most times rewarding. The job is best when time can be focused on the customer.

Cons

Top level management is clueless. It is no wonder that we have no direction. How many people think of a trip to Office Depot to buy travel toothpaste and lotion? Can the decision makers be any more confused? Price changes are out of control and cause too many problems. Part timers will soon be leaving because of a lack of hours and that is disturbing.

A Future Case Study In The Destruction of A Former Leading Company

Big company experience in a South Florida location where there are not a lot of big companies.

Cons

Watching current management mismanage a formerly great company through short term decisions, outsourcing, and ignorance of the office supply business and the importance of relationships and customer service. The outsourcing of delivery was the first step in poor customer service. The moving of customer service to the Philippines, India and other countries was and continues to be negatively received by customers. The outsourcing of telephone account management to save money resulted in significant YOY declines. The company continues to be reactive and a follower, not a leader. Accountability is non existant in this silo managed company.

Great environment to learn and growth professionally since middle management have to wear multiple hats.

Cons

There are a number of unqualified Directors and VP at Office Depot Corporate HQ. Office Depot is extremely top heavy. Also, there are different standards throughout the organization. Lack of accountability across divisions.
