Pros

Great managers and coworkers. ( location dependent ) If it weren't for those two things the place wouldn't be worth working for. I can only assume other locations have horrible turn over rates.

Cons

Constantly cut hours Systems and policies changed the minute we get used to anything Horrible pay for copy center associates Extreme stress in copy center during busy hours makes low pay not worth it Customers are rude and demanding (more dependent on your location) Seems as though no policies or implemented systems protect the associate from customers treating them badly. We're literally not allowed to say "no" to a customer. According to our older associates, the ICSE program ruined what the company used to be.

making commissions

Pros

monthly pay bonuses for employees who sell "commissionable" products, such as protection plans, and computer services. depending on performance, can make 10, 15, or 20% of the total commissionable sales per month. very few companies these days offer monetary incentives for extra pay this structure skews the tech department in favor of these commissions as the bulk is generated on the sales floor selling computers with protection plans and selling virus removal services. tech is where you will make the most money

Cons

in order to make commissions, not only do you have to sell these extra products, but also the store must meet its monthly goals. if the goals arent met for that month, you get nothing.

Pros

Office Depot does a great job with keeping the customer first priority, and generally allows associates to cater to all customers during "depot time." The stores I have been to allowed everyone to be cross-trained for every function in the store and whenever we are short-staffed someone can be easily substituted when needed. Breaks and lunches are the standard 15 and 30 minutes, and are flexible with receiving them. Flexibility with school or second job really make me stay there for the 5+ years while going to college and pursuing other career opportunities.

Cons

Weekly hours can fluctuate really harsh at times, one week you have 32+ and then you are dropped to a pathetic 15-20 hours. Consider this job as a way to get through school or bad economic times. Advancements are a joke to be honest, you start out as a cashier and from there you are placed in either freight, sales floor, or copy/print. Otherwise, you are left to be cashier. Hourly pay is not competitive, raises are yearly (barely 3% raise, what a joke) and you could be making more at fast-food or sit-down restaurants.
