RN at Downey - Low pay, always understaffed, doctor-oriented hospital

Pros

Good place to learn the trenches of nursing cause it's a low acuity hospital. The ER is basic medical services. After your first year LEAVE!!!

Cons

You know you're working for a bad Organization when 90% of the RN staff are new grads. Why is everyone leaving? Cause RNs here get paid what an LVN gets paid at the SNF down the street. The culture here is so doctor oriented that nurses always get the blame. As if we are not overworked already. nonunion so nurses don't get any protections

Pros

Staff is possionate and supportive for the most part.

Cons

At least with PHP the leadership is a mess. They are inexperienced, political and have no accountability for day to day operations. Staying under budget is the main focus and patient first is lacking. A few years ago the leadership seemed more engaged and knowledge able. After layoff in 2016 it all started going away from patient first to money first.

Pros

PIH uses electronic medical records and has a main data depository (Midas+) for, among many things, reporting to TJC and CMS.

Cons

There are too many systems that do not communicate with each other. Data is often difficult to obtain as a result. Need to maximize the Midas+ system. Also, there is a culture of cronyism among senior management, favoritism, and cliques that should be eliminated. Communication at every level is one of the weakest areas.
