Pros

PP has been around 10 years and is an industry leader. The company has worked towards finding product-market-fit for a new product and is in growth mode. Lots of exciting greenfield work happening right now using the latest stack(react, redux, graphql, kubernetes, golang). The company's leadership is very open and transparent(regular town-halls, 360' feedback, etc). Not to mention they have great benefits, flexible work hours, work from home, etc

Cons

The holiday season can be a bit hectic since that's the time when PP makes the most revenue. I guess that's a good problem to have.

Pros

The most amazing office culture I've ever had the pleasure of being part of. HR does a great job of maintaining clear communication channels. The leadership team is involved and try to be as forthcoming as possible. Work/life balance! I was on a team that worked directly with the customer and I never felt pressured to always "rise to the call of duty" when things got crazy. Instead, I did it because I wanted to contribute. PTO and work from home is flexible. We had the option to work from home whenever we wanted really, there was never an issue with it. Snacks, company sponsored outings, and the usual start up perks! Career development - this can vary per team and manager, but my manager and the company made is clear they wanted to develop their employees and build their skills so they stay for the long run. PP invests in their employees, which is wonderful.

Cons

Lack of accountability. When things would break, or dev would ship code that wasn't 100% up to snuff, it would directly affect PP's revenue and there were no repercussions for the dev team. Because of the size of the company, getting to know individuals outside of your team can be difficult. Integrating yourself can be challenging at first. May 2017 was a difficult month because PP restructured their business model to eliminate one of their products (PAPER products). This left 22 individuals without a job suddenly, and many teams had shifted responsibilities. I feel like this decision was a direct reflection of the management teams inefficiencies. Being in the position to restructure a profitable business model felt like the wrong move. It seriously cut morale, and hurt the company more than did good.

don't get trapped in the PP web of deception

Pros

+great beer and snack selection +excellent parties and team events +some employees are genuinely talented, want to do right by the customers and company +no stressful deadlines because nobody is keeping track of your project work +ample PTO for most employees +Pay for salaried positions is usually okay, for tech roles it's pretty great +Nice, recently renovated office in FiDi is easy to get to, and there's plenty of extra space for you to spread out over multiple desks now

Cons

-Not all full-timers are eligible for the same benefits packages, FT Hourly employees do not receive PTO or holiday pay -The leadership team can be deceitful, as was shown in May when almost 20% of the workforce was laid off only a few weeks after a townhall meeting called "growing 5 times our size" -The company has tried to spin the unexpected layoffs as a necessary evil directly related to the sunset of its paper product, but nobody on the paper team was let go. -Lots of great talent has left in the last 6 months because of an unclear trajectory, the demolition of years-long projects, and a lack of understanding on what employee engagement truly means (hint, it's not just happy hours) -There's pretty much no room for growth, and if you dare to dream bigger than the role you were hired into, you'll be classified as unfocused, difficult, not a team player, and lots of other jargon that will be used to manipulate you into being quiet. -Leadership is out of touch with the company's consumer base - features are created and changed based on the customer the company wishes it had (young 20/30-somethings) and not the customer it has (the parents of those 20/30-somethings) -Hourly pay rates are pretty dismal, and barely livable, especially considering a lack of paid vacation or holidays, and no room for overtime, it's like being trapped in a job you can't afford to keep and you can't afford to leave either
