Senior management has no faith in middle management or other employees. No one but senior management is trusted to make a decision. No communication from management about anything, be it changes in the workplace, changes in the market, future vision of the company, etc. All information about the company and decisions being made are gathered from rumors and hearsay. Salary and benefits are sub-par. Company touts financial growth during recession as a huge accomplishment, then gives out smaller and smaller raises each year. Employee morale generally poor. HR put out a survey to some employees to investigate morale issues and what to do about it, but almost a year later, nothing has come of it. Friends and family of owner given special treatment, so everyone tries to get in good graces with owner, which means anyone will throw you under the bus to look good in front of him.

Profitable account portfolios are like squeezing blood from a stone. The majority of the employees (sales) do not have college degrees and are "used car salesmen". Oh yea, and good luck being promoted unless you are a family member or related to the owner.
