Interesting concept, poorly executed.

Pros

Contracted to write for Patch when they first came into existence. They offered great flexibility and creative freedom. Both their pay rates and opportunities for freelancers started out good but steadily declined to less than desirable.

Cons

Pay and consistency of freelance assignments steadily declined. Goals and structure of the organization often changed focus and lacked clear strategy. Local editors were always stretched too thin.

Pros

Flexible schedule, decent freelancing rates, editors are reasonable and easy to work with good for early career exposure, excellent place to start a journalistic career

Cons

Too many freelancers and not enough work, inconsistent, those who do become editors work an insane amount (80+ hour weeks), company is not doing well
