Pros

If you can find a manager AND district manager that isn't incompetent or under qualified for the job (as most of them are) then you'll probably enjoy working with them. Discount is decent - 30% off with 1 pair of shoes 50% off a month. Occasionally there will be a week where the discount is 40% off. It's a decent part-time job.

Cons

The pay is unreasonably low, it will seem like a lot to those who don't have much work experience but it's peanuts. Promotions are rare and deemed unnecessary due to store volumes. Also the company does NOT opt to promote within the company. New Managers tend to be under qualified - you will work under someone who has less retail experience than you. District managers tend to threaten the managers which leads to managers threatening employees. They're also implementing extra useless merchandise that has no business being sold at a discount shoe store. I don't expect the company to do well for much longer.

Pros

the benfits is about it

Cons

I've been here awhile and couldn't recommend Payless as a good place to work. They over work the managers and don't pay the part-timer anything.

Pros

The facility was top notch and the equipment provided to do your job was equally nice. The laid-back atmosphere of the team in general was also nice. The pay as a contractor was outstanding.

Cons

There was little or no communication between teams, nor between management and workers. In 5 months of work I actually spoke to my manager about 15 times, and he sat directly across from me. I received no direction as to how to direct my project, even when I asked for it. I also received no feedback as to the job I was doing, positive or negative, again even when asked for. When I asked for guidance my response was generally that "I'll take care of it", even though I had the most experience of any on the team with the equipment. The project groups all have equal say in decisions with no leadership from directors or above, so it was easy to deadlock on a decision, causing the project scope to change once or twice a week.
