Pros

Some smart wonderful people

Cons

Poor management, no executive training, no opportunities for advancement, good old boys club. Culture of tearing each other down. Unrealistic expectations.

Losing its charm

Pros

Pindrop's strength lies in the people, every single person is smart, talented, fun to work with and has something unique to offer. The company did a great job in talent acquisition. Pindrop can deliver anything with this team. The product is there, it works. There is still a significant room for growth, especially abroad, but...

Cons

But the continuing incompetence in management is taking its toll, the team is losing its magic. The overall stress level is high, decisions are usually tactical, made on the spot but has long term, usually conflicting effects. No clear direction, lack of unity. The internal structure is best described as a federation of clans. The result is a demotivated team of talented engineers, incapacitated with needless political battles. There is no performance bonus. Expecting a reward for good work after a year in such a short sighted, tribalistic organization is not realistic anyway. The perks and benefits are losing their appeal, too.

Pros

Smart folks with strong work ethic. Research scientists are always there to help each other. Freedom to do research of choice on paper but ..

Cons

.. there is NO career path. - Too many customer questions that have nothing to do with research leading to degraded morale. Department is at the bottom of the pecking order in the company. - Actual research work is a luxury afforded to few. - The ones with zero research expertise in management indulge in politics (probably the highest in the organization) and are simply incompetent. - Top management is making amends to processes but it's too late.
