Pros

- Team dynamics may vary— but, I was fortunate to work with a lot of talented and kind people on my side of campus! - My manager was the best one that I’ve had. Easy to talk to whenever you needed any sort of guidance or support for your work. - Everyone is supportive. - Beautiful campus. - Cafeteria meals are great. You just have to pay for it yourself. Including the Starbucks coffee.

Cons

Challenges vary from department to department... As much as Premera is trying to catch up with the times, there are moments you’ll see just how dated their operations are in some areas. For example, many people and myself found it really hard to voice our opinions to upper management. There’s a lot of corporate culture nonsense to work through just so that your feedback can get to the right manager/director/president. And you’re likely not going to be able to provide that feedback yourself. Another important point to mention is the way the company adapted to COVID-19. It showed a lot about how much they cared about employees. During the first 2 months of the pandemic, many of us were at home without proper equipment besides our laptops. No assistance to access proper chairs, desks, supplies from our desks was provided. We were told that we had to just use what we had at home until they figure things out. They later offered credits to give employees access to food delivery, but that was poorly marketed around the company and barely any of us knew that we had that perk.

Pros

Good pay and benefits, telecommuting is encouraged.

Cons

Employees that the Team Leads likes can do no wrong. If a coworker doesn’t like your bullied and treated horrible! I was treated unfairly despite the fact I had good feed back on calls that were coached. I was promoted twice within 6 months, told how amazing I was doing and impressed by my knowledge. Management noticed how bad coworkers were treating me, Team Lead was really upset and admitted I was being harassed and bullied. I was promised that it would dealt with, next thing I am being question about a report that “HR” was curious about. I was fired for a policy I had not even heard a week after my Team Lead promised to take care of the harassment. Plain and simple I was fired in retaliation and to make it worse my final paycheck showed my raise from my yearly review that was done days before the harassment being identified. Wrongful termination and a toxic hostile work environment.

Diversity Challenged

Pros

People are extremely nice and caring and the benefits are good.

Cons

The culture does not support action oriented people, especially women and POC. It embraces the risk-adverse culture that is insurance which is fine for a lot of people who just show up for the pay and benefits but if that isn't your preference it is likely not a good place for you. However, the Operations team is outstanding and I would recommend that area based on its leadership and culture. There is a lot of change and politics in most of the rest of the company, lots of talking a good game about making healthcare work better but not a lot of heavy lifting to make the real change since it would impact the exec comp.
