Pros

I have worked in IT at Premera for a very long time. Premera does offer outstanding work/life balance. All in all I have been treated fairly well in the compensation area. The people are by far the best part of the job. Premera does well in regards to training and there is room for growth - to a point. Myself, I have hit a career path ceiling that I don't see a way to break through.

Cons

IT Management, both mid-level and upper have some issues. They continue to increase workload without adding resources. Obtaining approval for additional head count is like pulling hens teeth - impossible - unless you are one of leaderships golden children. They say they will listen to Associates in this regard but never do. This year they mandated a reduction in the number of high ratings managers could give out. This rating has everything to do with my pay and bonus. Being told that you are no longer a 4, and that working at a very high level no longer qualifies you as a 4 sucks. Especially when they can't tell you how you can improve to become a 4 once again. I now feel very under appreciated and undervalued.

We couldn't agree more - the people at Premera are the best part of the job! Ongoing performance discussions are a very important part of remaining aligned with our purpose and to providing continued growth and engagement for employees. Unfortunately, it sounds like your annual performance review conversation did not go as you had hoped. As an organization we have not mandated a reduction in high ratings. However, we hope you saw a recent communication outlining the updates to the performance review process. This change will help to support performance conversations and provide opportunity to further recognize employees for the outstanding work being performed. We'd like to thank you for the opportunity to continue learning from your feedback. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your leader or Human Resources if you'd like to continue this discussion.

Pros

I believe the employees at Premera really do care. We care for the customer, we care for our co-workers and most of us really do want to improve lives by making healthcare work better. And that is what keeps most of us coming back. The people, the purpose.

Cons

We try. We are told we are empowered, that we have a voice. But do we really? At first I thought so and I really did feel empowered to help transform the company and culture. But the longer I am here, the longer I feel like I am only listened to when I agree with upper management. Diversity of thought is openingly welcomed, but like that annoying friend on Facebook who posts how awesome her life is only to get a divorce, it is all superficial. Upper management talks a big talk, but I don't think they really want to change. They feel they are already right. I truly do like it here and want to stay so I hope things change.

What makes Premera a great place to work is the people who live and breath our values each day. You're absolutely right, Premera employees care about the customer and their co-workers. As an organization, many changes have taken place based on the thoughtful feedback, constructive conversations, and ideas that come directly from employees. Shifting an entire culture does take time. There is work to be done to better show employees that we're listening and taking action. We want to thank you for your thoughtful feedback and for caring so deeply about the direction of our organization.

Pros

Great Snohomish county location. Free parking cafe on site. Nice walking trails during lunch.long working relationship with staff.

Cons

They are currently hiring new customer service representatives at more than $3.00 an hour from where I am currently being paid. I have been with this company for almost 16 years. They say they are trying to attract new talent, but what about the talent they already have? I find it unacceptable they won't take the time to review their current talent. I have been rated a 4 by my Team Leads in all my years. Do they not value my talent? Really frustrated with this current inadequacy. Rumor has it, leave and come back then negotiate your wage. So miffed. What would your members find value you? An experienced person feeling taken care of or a newer employee who spends too much time trying to figure it out?
