Pros

The people are truly awesome. Very few egos and those folks with any airs/attitude tend to leave quickly. I was comfortable walking up to any SVP at a company happy hour and having a casual conversation and that's pretty rare. Also, summer music happy hours, early dismissal before holiday weekends, location, etc. are all great.

Cons

If you're going to make your motto "People First," you need to pay people a livable salary. They do not pay people what they're worth and expect most to take a pay cut to work there. As a result, people don't last. I loved working there but ultimately had to leave to make a halfway decent salary. There's a constant feeling of being nickel and dimed (paying for parking? snacks?). They do make an effort to make you feel valued with words but after a while it feels like they're just trying to distract you from having to pay for everything and the lack of pay, bonus, etc. Also, vacation was 10 days per year, which is pretty low.

Pros

Great place to work if you are upper level. They've managed to hang on to a few great employees. But the turnover is high and so many of the good people leave for a place with more money/opportunity. The courtyard is nice. There are three parties a year, and those are fun.

Cons

The pay is a joke. Upper level makes all of the cash, while lower level employees hardly make more than the retail works on the promenade. There's a serious imbalance going on. While they love to tout their work life balance, again that only applies to the higher ups. We always seemed to be in a fire drill, working late. Really limited vacation. On top of poor pay, they nickel and dime you. Parking? You've gotta pay that. Snacks? Here's a vending machine! Lunchtime meeting? BYOL. Client meeting across town? That's on you. Traveling for work? You pay all costs upfront and hope to be reimbursed. Crammed into open seating like sardines. Another ad agency full of white men. No diversity.

Pros

Learned a lot and worked with some very smart people

Cons

Looking back on this, my experience at RPA was extremely unhealthy. Long hours, low pay, and a team that considered everything an emergency. Office gossip was also prevalent by everyone from assistants to directors. RPA tries too hard to have a "fun" culture by putting on courtyard happy hours every few weeks, but it's not enough to mask what actually goes on in the agency. Comparing my experience at RPA to my experience at my new agency, I'm surprised I don't have serious PTSD.
