Pros

Interesting industry and the opportunity to make decent commission as in any sales job. Much higher opportunity in field during trade shows.

Cons

Unorganized startup. Benefits were overpromised during interview. Hourly pay but sometimes includes weekend work and/or travel in this role with partial accommodations. Commission was never finalized in a timely manner and the process is not streamlined. The comp plan changed often so the calculations were often incorrect and only resolved at the very last minute. That team is very understaffed along with billing and admin. It was a very transactional sale most of the time but you were waiting on other teams in order to get a deal through. The quote system is very slow and buggy (not Docusign). SF accounts and transfers are a nightmare and reps do not have the permissions to transfer amongst each other. If something was incorrectly booked on someone’s calendar, no one could tell you how it happened. Some would need to interview for new roles while others did not. Important matters would get dragged on for months. Manager would constantly say they were not the right person to talk to even though they were the only manager for AE’s. There were 2 teams at one point but it did not last long. Most of the reps are relatively new and churn is high. Rules were always changed as they saw fit. Coworkers were working with Covid. Seemed like the expectation was to work, no support. Team members and managers were admitting to burn out but always working on days off. Earned PTO was not paid out.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we are sorry to hear of your experience. We value company culture and are always looking at ways to improve process, compensation, and career pathing. Our goal is to ensure we provide opportunities to earn competitive commission, while creating leadership opportunities for those looking to advance their career. The comp plan is updated at the beginning of each year to align with company initiatives and excited to offer more infield travel opportunities this year! We're glad you saw the increased earning potential as a result of our recent efforts, while appreciate the feedback on ways we could streamline pre and post sale operations. If you have any other additional feedback, I'd love to hear it directly kirsten@realself.com. Thank you again for taking the time to share. - Kirsten Mann VP, Sales

so much worse than it has to be

Pros

- fully remote (with option to go into Seattle HQ if you're local) - excellent work/life balance, emphasis on output vs. time you're putting in, nobody harassing you before or after hours (in my experience) - some genuinely nice, extremely talented, easygoing people, including managers (BELOW executive level) - competitive salary and potential for annual bonus

Cons

what is so frustrating about this company is that it has the potential to be truly culture-shifting - it's a brilliant concept in a booming market that SHOULD be thriving. unfortunately, the almost entirely white male executive team just can't seem to figure it out. there have been two layoffs with significant cuts in 2022 less than six months apart, all affecting employees who actually DO THE WORK (some of which started at the company fewer than three months earlier before getting laid off - huge red flag), rather than the people at the tippy top who *should* be held accountable. the site is outdated, the product on the backend is a mess, they somehow have terrible relationships with the best doctors and major brands they want to court... again, the actual product they're offering is sincerely useful and has so much potential, they just keep dropping the ball. they don't seem to understand that a bloated, top-heavy, grossly overpaid executive team that keeps letting go or otherwise losing the "little people" who literally make the business function day to day is not just a really bad look but terrible for business in the long run

Don't ignore the red flags

Pros

company culture, great team members, competitive pay

Cons

There have already been two rounds of lay-offs in 2022, and it's only July. They'll hire people just to lay them off a few weeks later. It makes me question their ethics and foresight. While the pay and culture are great while you're there, you will never feel like your job is secure.

The recent changes we made to our workforce structure were really hard for the entire RealSelf organization - and especially so for those team members directly impacted. Please know that these decisions are never taken lightly. These changes will continue to support RealSelf’s strategy to deliver innovative value to our providers/specialists and industry brand partners, to expand geographically, and to evolve our platform to better serve our consumers. We are so grateful to you and our past-employees and for your dedication to RealSelf’s brand purpose to empower every person to realize their most confident self. And we sincerely wish you the best of luck in your next role.
