Do yourself a favor - don't work here

Pros

The pay is the only pro.

Cons

I have not met a single person who genuinely enjoys working at this company. "Happy Hour's" are an excuse to complain about work. If they did not offer competitive pay, they would not have employees. Management encourages you to "speak up if you notice any areas of improvement" but when you speak up, the problem is your fault. Like the title says. Do yourself a favor and don't work here, I cannot stress it enough. The amount of constant stress and pressure you are put under is NOT worth the pay.

Pros

- Great culture and the company is focused on keeping it that way (coming from someone ex-military, very refreshing) - Build expertise through a wide array of technologies, massive exposure to IT industry, especially helpful for those without as much "hands on" experience - Leaders and subordinates empowerment, YEAH! The "autonomous" feel is not lost, but work is still checked to ensure top quality production. - Ability to build your customer service skills and people skills, rather then strictly technical, through frequent customer interactions (if you so choose) - Promotions, promotions, promotions. Great perk, don't pass them up! - Continuous cyber education through certification building and sponsored programs - Competitive salary and benefits - You get out of it what you put in to it! Other reviews tend to focus on some particular negatives, some of which I'd like to dispel: Culture (it is not just propaganda), all those who I have come into contact with at the company from all departments are determined to ensure the values of the company are upheld. When those values are not upheld for whatever reason, that is when there can be an issue and rightfully so. RQ did not become what it is today without fostering such a great culture environment. - The CEO embodies the values of the company and is a great role model for others to emulate. It is not hard to see how RQ got to where it is today based on how the CEO operates. Which is continuous growth and evolution of the individuals at the company, including himself and the company. - This company really is #uncommon. See for yourself and what you can achieve at RQ

Cons

- Question: What happens when you grow? - Answer: Things change. So in fact, it is a double edged sword. What comes when you grow is all the benefits of growth (increased company size, new buildings, more customers, etc). But what also comes with it is an increased workload, which can at times seem lopsided resulting in fatigue throughout departments. This fatigue is managed through opportunities for lateral promotions to other departments, moving roles, or through opportunities for PTO (which are pretty generous!). In summary, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Pros

They buy you food every friday to make you feel better about your garbage job, some managers will buy alcohol for employees to drink in the office (you'll need it)

Cons

The SIEM rules are all bullcrap. There's a particularly noisy one that fires if traffic goes over port 1337. Customers don't care, so you have no idea whether you're actually doing anything. True Positive rate on alerts that fired are around 5%. You WILL work weekends. You may work entire days with no chance to get up from your desk. You may stay late with no opportunity for overtime or reducing hours throughout the week. You will be patronized by content developers and engineers for trying to do your job. You will leave every day wanting to quit. You will spend a lot of time teaching new employees basic concepts of cyber security, because anyone who knows what they're doing either turns RQ down, or doesn't stick around for more than a year. When you get a raise, it may take a couple of months for it to show up in your paycheck, and you will NOT get backpay. Do not work here if you have children, because RQ is very much against taking time off for family emergencies, such as the birth of a child.
