Great opportunity — impact, autonomy, and growth

Pros

Retool is a true rocketship company. We've grown 3x year over year in my tenure. This has provided me and other employees with growth opportunities. Taking ownership over key projects, working with large customers, building out features end-to-end, promotions into management roles, etc. If you thrive in this kind of environment, Retool will provide you with countless opportunities to step outside your comfort zone and make a big impact. The best part of this growth trajectory is that it is based on revenue and customer growth, so there's no fear of layoffs or other scenarios where the rugs might get pulled out from under you. Culture is very transparent. All KPIs are public (in Retool apps) and shared with the whole company. Leadership shares internal updates and board memos with the whole company and opens up for regular Q&As.

Cons

With any hypergrowth company, there are downsides. Things can be chaotic as we outgrow systems and processes. Some managers are overloaded with 10+ direct reports. At any given point, half of the company has been here for less than one year, leading to onboarding and growing pains. Internal systems like performance management, human resources, IT, management training, etc are just getting started.

Pros

I love Retool! Extremely high caliber team (strong talent magnet from Stripe, Gusto, Segment, and others) and transparent culture that gives people autonomy to do their work and drive projects. On top of that, we are going after a massive market and have experienced strong traction, based on a product that developers love.

Cons

As with any startup, there are growing pains, with thing that break, not enough resourcing in certain areas, but the leaders seem aware and are working to address these challenges.
