Retool: the rocket ship startup that dreams are made of.

Pros

Deeply collaborative environment that is rooted in transparency and genuine enablement. I feel heard at Retool. I'm expected and encouraged to have an opinion and nobody at the company is uber protective of their domains. Everyone has a vested interest to grow the company, and help others grow alongside it. I believe Retool cares about, and invests in my growth as an individual. Opportunity to wear several hats and optimize for learning in a genuine way that encourages more meaningful impact. The pace of the environment matches the pace of our business growth rate, a rarity in startup world! It's exciting to be a part of a successful company at this point of its history. High caliber peer set. I think we've done a good job of hiring fantastic individuals/teams/individuals, which makes it easier to bring my best self to work every day. Often times, it doesn't feel like work! This isn't the first startup I've worked at, but it's definitely the startup that I've had the most fun at. I can choose my own snacks? AWESOME.

Cons

We're not immune to growing pains, like any other startup out there, but I think our leadership team has done a good job of being proactive to growing pains as we scale. Benefits are great, but there's more to want for (though I suspect perks and benefits to continue to improve at a consistent pace).

VCs that missed Retool are sobbing

Pros

Retool has the exact right mix of product market fit, current talent, and deep pockets. The core concept was gold from the start and attracted a die hard fan base. I can’t really imagine a company I would rather work for. I feel guilty describing working at Retool to other people because the differences are so intense.

Cons

The team culture is likely to be vulnerable as we hyper scale. So far we’ve managed to recruit very well, optimizing for culture fit. There’s a strong need for employees to vocally embody Retool values as an example for new hires. Things are moving very fast though, and if push comes to shove this might get left behind.

Amazing hyper-growth startup to work for

Pros

Incredible leadership and in the middle of hiring more senior folks. Leadership has a variety of backgrounds from top tech companies (Segment, Stripe, MapBox). Transparent working culture, very collaborative. Minimal feeling of competition between coworkers and knowledge sharing is encouraged and common. Brilliant product at the forefront of low-code. Wide range of customers using the tool for interesting applications across every industry and vertical. World class talent in every department. Reflective and thoughtful culture. Very fun team to work with and extremely enjoyable to get to know everyone. Fast-paced environment that’s looking to double headcount annually.

Cons

Still figuring out several processes and teams are in flux. Relies on new employees to be very proactive and take ownership which can be scary for some. Fast paced and may require long nights to complete tasks.
