Absolutely the Worst Retail Job Ive ever held. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY!
Pros
Merchandise is cheap. So cheap that it will be returned tomorrow. Very little quality merchandise. A lot of refurbished goods, that are of poor quality. Absolutely the worst customers in retail.
Cons
Low Pay. Worthless benefits package to managers and employees. No employee discount. Long tenured associates making a bit over minimum wage. Open on the holidays. The customers-ugh, the worst. I have never seen so much merchandise stolen in a store in 25 years of retail experience. Loss prevention focuses mainly on the employee theft, when the bulk of it is the customers. Fixtures that came over on the Ark, quite literally. Pay is so low, that finding competent assistants and associates is impossible, so its high turnover. You can make your sales-but watch that management fee at the bottom of your P&L-which takes all your bottomline profit and whisks it into the Pope family coffers. Payroll hours too small to effectively run a store. Recent management turnover gave associates a Dash for the Cash initiative, which gave a 1o to 20 dollar taxed bonus-blanket bonus to associates, whereupon you have unworthy associates getting a bonus they didn't deserve, and store managers walk away with nothing. High Shrink environment-you will soon learn that you have to "fix" your markdowns to make your numbers. This is a money hungry company that targets low income and minority customers, and exploits them. For a company that did 865 million in sales last year, its hard to believe the huge profit all goes into one mans pocket, who turns around and donates that cash to the Republican party.
