Pros

You'll learn how much you can put up with and when to when away

Cons

Honestly, this was one of the most exhausting jobs I've ever had. The whole place runs on favoritism and fake positivity, you quickly realize who's in the inner circle and who's not. If you're not a favorite, don't expect support, respect, or even basic communication. Roles are super unclear, and you're just expected to figure everything out while juggling way too much. Meanwhile, leadership, especially the president and senior team act way too important to actually help. Their attitude is arrogant, and they love to micromanage without doing any real work themselves. It creates his stressful, brutal environment where everyone's burned out and no one feels heard. There's a weird mix of pretending everything is great while things are clearly falling apart behind the scenes. Definitely not a place I'd recommend if you value you time, energy, or sanity.

We regret hearing about your negative experience. While we’re glad you had a positive experience with your colleagues, we do not agree with the characterization that SCAN does not care about its staff. Our Rebels (employees) are central to our mission of keeping seniors healthy and independent and fostering a supportive workplace is a priority at SCAN as it enables us to better contribute to our mission to keep seniors healthy and independent. Support to empower our Rebels to do their best work is offered not only through regular training, tools, and resources, but also through feedback channels, career development, work-life balance, recognition and inclusion initiatives, and an open-door culture that allows for candid feedback from all levels of the organization with the option to submit anonymously at any time. As you have moved on from SCAN, we wish you the best in your future pursuits.

Pros

Health plans are relatively cheap, but of no quality.

Cons

I was a nurse here for 5 years, until the new owner implemented a "daily check-in" system that involved brutal scrutiny of every minor task. As the head nurse, I suggested that is is brutal to health workers. Yet they just told me that my opinion is not valued under their new leadership. We need to hit numbers, even if it costs the quality of healthcare. For instance, the cheaper gauze and medical tapes were used for patients who are easily broken. I brought up concerns that were unacceptable to medical and ethical standards. My attitude was met with a rude dismissal, and I got fired. It felt like deliberate attempt to stifle my professionalism! I was saddened that I needed to leave like this! To anyone who wishes for a nursing career, this place is not advisable!

We regret hearing about your negative experience as this does not reflect the standards, values, or culture we uphold across the organization at SCAN. Feedback from our care teams is critical to our mission of keeping seniors healthy and independent and delivering high-quality, person-centered care. As a not-for-profit, we are able to prioritize people over profits and hold ourselves to high clinical standards by facilitating a work culture that allows all team members to feel respected, heard, and supported. We take any and all concerns seriously and our leadership team works hard to ensure that employees can trust those concerns will be addressed appropriately. As you are no longer with SCAN, we appreciate the work you did on behalf of our members and wish you the best in your future endeavors.

THEY DONT CARE ABOUT YOU

Pros

low cost health insurance benefit, dental, vision, 401k, FSA

Cons

They don’t care about you they only care about the performance, percentages, numbers, ratings. Lack of employee appreciation, forces you to work over time, your performance only matters and it sucks the life out of you. A small “appreciation” with a logo hoodie? No thanks. Bonus is small. Raise is small and does not meet inflation. You just don’t feel appreciated. Up to a few years ago they cared about the employees but that has changed within the last two years. They advertise room for growth but there is no opportunity for you here unless you slave away 5+ years.

We regret hearing about your negative experience but are glad to hear that you appreciate our robust benefits offerings. SCAN prides itself on caring for its employees and the fact that 93% of all of our Rebels (employees) say it is a great place to work is a point of pride for our organization. We always welcome—and encourage—feedback from employees at all levels of the organization and offer the option to submit it anonymously at any time. Our leaders also have an “open door” policy, and we encourage our team members to utilize that opportunity as well. Should you want to have further discussions, please reach out to your supervisor or a member of the HR team at peoplerelations@scanhealthplan.com.
