Pros

Once upon a time there were some great leaders and execs here

Cons

Sps could not retain them. There is so much politics going on here . If you don't already have friends and family that work there, it might be slightly difficult to adjust especially for POC

Pros

Great sales training, fun people. Great place to get started with a sales career.

Cons

Turnover has been at an all time high over the past 18 months- management won't address the issue, they will tell you this is normal for sales. It is not normal when you have entire sales teams quitting over the course of 6-9 months. This type of turnover culture is miserable to be a part of. Significantly underpaid compared to market which becomes frustrating because promotions are few and far in between, and only minor increases. I found the level of bureaucracy within the organization and micromanagment to be detrimental to efficiency, there's so many processes in place that nothing actually gets done on time or solved- this often leads to unhappy customers. One size fits all when it comes to customers, SPS would rather extort small businesses then find a sales model that makes sense for all parties involved. Management and executives only have interest in hitting their "quarters of revenue growth" streak, which comes at the expense of being overworked, underpaid and little opportunity for your career.

Pros

Work/life balance; good people and culture still okay; strong network; realizing product is a commodity; looks good on a resume in Minneapolis market

Cons

Pay is well below market and tenured, qualified people are leaving in big numbers - which seems to be part of the plan to cut costs. If you’re looking for good salespeople, everybody is looking. Went from driving sales to cutting costs - lots of questions about if they’re being sold.

SPS Commerce Response

I am sorry you had a less than ideal experience at SPS. We take feedback seriously and also want to be sure feedback is accurate. Our turnover in sales is actually lower than last year and last year was lower than the year before. We benchmark our pay annually and are confident our target compensation is competitive for people who are performing. Those who are doing great are paid above market and those not hitting plan are paid below market. In addition to competitive pay and benefits, we pride ourselves on our strong culture, great values, and work/life balance. We have hired a lot of sales people in the past few years who decided our pay was competitive - otherwise, why would they have joined SPS? If you are reading this and looking for a job, I encourage you to apply and decide for yourself. Check out our open positions at spscommerce.com.
