If you keep your head down or get in with the right people you can work here forever without doing much, and It can be a sweet gig. As you can guess, this leads me to the cons

Cons

HR is an absolute disaster. Not very competent or professional. I went to speak with them a few years ago regarding an issue I had with my manager. Two weeks later the CEO's admin is saying that she has heard I'm having problems. I discussed this issue with no one else. Thanks a lot. I shared this experience with a few trusted coworkers and apparently this is one of the reasons HR is not trusted by most. Who else do they share confidential information with? Don't they have enough work to do? It felt like high school.

I have witnessed hard working and smart employees over looked for career growth opportunities because they weren't chummy with the right people. As someone relatively new to the company compared to most employees, I see things a bit differently. There are people in important roles that shouldn't be. They aren't hard working, self-directed, or highly skilled. It's not a secret that they are being protected because of their personal relationships. I am lucky enough not to have this sort of nonsense effect my role, but seeing it effect my colleagues makes me question management.

at least half of the workforce is smart and motivated

Cons

One executive with manipulative, controlling, petty, and methodical behavior. Will hold grudges for years, is not forward thinking, micro manages and and finds reasons to make people miserable to the point that they look for new jobs. I am confused as to why this is allowed.
