Mandatory 3 days in office = low score

Pros

Everyone I work with is awesome.

Cons

My review is colored heavily by the announcement of mandatory three days in office regardless of location. Don't tell us you've listened and don't insult me by insinuating that being in-person is how people are high performers. I spent a decade in a role in which none of my team were even in the same time zone and performed excellent work entirely from home. This mandatory change has a negative impact on my opinions of leadership. And I've been here almost 20 years.

We appreciate your feedback and have read through your comments. Please note that our hybrid working approach is an important element of the way we work at Sage that is complemented by other benefits such as paid time to volunteer, the ability to work away for up to 10 weeks a year and free well-being support tools. We recently also answered several colleagues' questions about the new 3-day policy. If you've not seen this communication on our internal intranet site, it sheds more light on how colleagues will be supported as they adhere to our updated hybrid structure. Pros

The people we work with every day Family friendly policies Current hybrid working Benefits like Healthcare plan, life insurance etc Share save

Cons

There is just no let up these days, everyone is literally working flat out to the point of burnout but nobody listens above our Line Managers. Every year we fill in Glint surveys but none of the more serious comments are listened to. The amount of work within teams is unmanageable with most people working way above their core hours but nobody cares - the work keeps coming - at what point are people able to take a breath and enjoy their role instead of the constant pressure? Progressions have been on hold for nearly 2 years - we are told by SLT on All Hands that this isn't the case - it 100% is the case - maybe they dont know whats happening at team levels. Then the icing on the cake has been the announcement recently about the move to 3 days in the office, this is a huge kick in the teeth for a high % of office based staff, its just awful. Its not helped by the fact that we announced a move to Cobalt prior to Covid which was upsetting for a large proportion of staff due to the extra travel time. The fact that we moved to a hybrid way of working post covid helped this situation a lot - then the move to 2 days wasn't too bad, this is acceptable but to then be forced to come in 3 days feels really unfair - for a lot of us we spend most of days on Teams calls so are often looking around for quiet areas to go on calls, its difficult to find these areas already so having more people in for 3 days is going to be even worse. Not only this but the coffee area doesn't cope well with the numbers now, so I've no idea how this is going to work out, or the parking. My final comment would be the disgraceful way we were literally shouted at like naughty children on a Global call about the move to 3 days - extremely unprofessional. That way of talking does not meet the Sage Values in my opinion.

Pros

People are mint, direct reports are supportive Good opportunities

Cons

Although I understand not everyone is in the same boat due to childcare/financial reasons etc, I like the three office days, and I choose to do that. However, my concern comes into play BECAUSE people are now being forced in 3 days a week. The Newcastle office space is not fit for purpose going into this new policy. Parking spaces are already limited, as are desk spaces, coffee machines maybe work for 1 whole week of the year so when they don't, the queues for Starbucks are MEGA (not all employees have spare time to wait in these queues) . The food is around 1 star on a good day, being served food that is cold in the middle and is a potential food poisoning risk doesn't give people much hope for eating in the office, which is good cause there isn't enough room anyways....but then again we have a HUGE choice of external catering...Greggs and Tescos and....or if I bring my own food in I can cram it into 1 of the 2 tiny fridges the whole office has to share. We did used to have multiple canteens that served different food each day in the old office...we get the same thing and one choice of canteen every day, paninis, toasties, salad, chips, jacket potatoes, sandwiches (lots of carbs and bread you may notice) and here comes the exciting bit....2 choices of a hot dish...but don't go after 1pm cause they won't have any left ;) And then there's leaving the office, I leave around 4/4:30....it takes me over an hour to get home due to the traffic within Silverlink...that's without all these extra employees now coming in, and the public transport links are diabolical and let's be honest far too unreliable.
