Pros

Some really smart people that work really hard

Cons

Companies that make employees work 12 hour + days and weekends DO NOT have a great work life balance. Companies whose employees hate working there so much that they resign before they've found a new job DO NOT have a great culture. Companies that don't promote from within DO NOT offer great "career opportunities". If Samsung ever paid as much attention to the people who make them successful as they do the products those people work their butts off to support - this would be an amazing place to work. Unfortunately - they don't. Keep looking for your Next Big Thing. This isn't it.

Pros

Since Samsung was my first employment, I have waited an entire year so I could write a fair review. In waiting, it has occurred to me that I do miss a few things about Samsung. I miss the company Family Fun Day at Six Flags. I miss the Holiday Gala and company holiday gift. I miss the companies miss use of company funds on pointless department lunches and dinners. I miss talking to other employees about the racism and sexism that goes on throughout the office. The benefits and pay were nothing better than fair.

Cons

While working at Samsung, I was continuously put down, over worked, and never respected. Management has little respect for its employees and often ignores there advice. Management respects you more if you are Korean. For example, we once had a meeting on an important issue. After going through all the issues and coming to a solution that everyone agreed to, I discovered that the solution was not what was implemented. Apparently, a separate meeting took place that only consisted of the Korean members of the meeting and they came to there own solution. The meeting that I had been told to coordinate was only performed to make the non-Korean employees feel that they were part of the solution. After working at Samsung for 4 years, working 60-80 hour weeks including one 35 continuous hour experience, I have learned that Samsung will never respect the hard work and dedication that one has provided to the company and the department.

Pros

Compensation and benefits are above average to enter people to overlook the horrible work environment and long hours.

Cons

Avoid Samsung. It is a toxic, sexist, backstabbing place to work which rewards those willing to degrade others. I was personally verbally abused and degraded on a weekly basis by American and Korean colleagues. I was humiliated in front of colkeagues because I was unwilling to play a binge drinking game. I reported the incident to HR but nothing was done and the perpetrator was instead promoted. In the new employee orientation they teach employees how to try and navigate the binge drinking culture that permeates Samsung. But unless you drink and participate you are looked over for promotion and advancement. Further the company is srxist to the core treating women very poorly. For example I had a colleague who was asked in an interview for a promotion: "If you receive the promotion who will take care of your children?" Avoid Samsung if you value your dignity and self worth.
