Unrealistic Expectations....

Pros

Free coffee, cool old buildings that say class and quality -- which the company is not. Some nice good folks who all walk around in fear that they will be fired at the drop of a hat for looking at the owner wrong.

Cons

The "corporate culture" and "values" they espouse is bull and smokescreen. Owner is always micro managing and changing the plans and rules on the fly. Wanted 3 and half years worth of problems fixed in two months. Was told I would have more than a year to fix things. Claimed that they couldn't afford me two months after hiring me. What kind of planning is that. The employment contract tells you everything you need to know. It is all about what they want not the employee. Owner changed plans in mid-stream at least three different times and put different people in charge of the same project each time with different expectations and guidelines. Owner has the inmates running the asylum and is NUTS

Good Place to Work, Great Co-Workers

Pros

The leadership and my co-workers at Savant Learning Systems are very supportive and encouraging. I have been with Savant for over a year and continue to enjoy doing what I love. It is nice to work for a company who appreciates work-life balance and its employees. The company has a balance of corporate structure and a family-like atmosphere. Working for a growing company is exciting and challenging which can be a deterrent for some. However, the positive is that our opportunities are endless. We are the future of the company. Management places full trust in its staff. Independence is one of our core values. Management expects us to own our processes, be efficient, and think outside the box to do more with less. Not everyone is suited for this type of face-paced, rapidly changing work environment. Being resilient to change is a must. The only constant in business is change. It is an exciting time for our company as we grow. I am looking forward to another great year!

Cons

Being a growing company in the field of technology and education, change occurs pretty often. Change can be good. It is how well it is communicated and received by others that is the challenge. The communication could be improved to help reduce some of the apprehension of change.

Excellent employment for flexible, dedicated workers

Pros

Savant is extremely supportive of growth within the company. Many people are chosen for promotions and put into leadership positions within a year after initial employment. It is a fast-paced environment because education is a rapidly shifting focus area around the world, and the people who work here want to do everything in their power to provide the highest quality e-learning product on the market. The working environment is beautiful, and many unessential needs are met everyday, such as access to free coffee, birthday celebrations, company picnics, extravagant holiday parties, etc. The list goes on because Savant loves to reward its employees by playing hard since they do, indeed, work hard. Retirement plans and insurance are of course available to employees, and premiums are competitive. Raises are offered regularly and fairly.

Cons

The company structure frequently shifts in order to improve the working experience, which can be frustrating for individuals looking for a standard, never-changing 9 to 5 workplace where they can come in, put in their time, and go home. Turning this job into a career is an absolute pleasure if you are willing to make it one, but it can be a nightmare if you don't approach change with a positive outlook and an industrious attitude that is willing to take on new challenges. This business is planted in a small town, and it lends itself towards the typical gossip and politics that can often occur in such small towns. This culture translates easily through the company walls, and there can often be some tensions between co-workers as a result. I find this is typical with a company made up of a majority female workforce, and it is easy to remain above the drama if one chooses not to involve oneself in it.
