The Best Decision of My Professional Career

Pros

I have been with Sentinel about 18 months and am extremely lucky to say I love my job. After graduation I worked for a large company where I was not fully utilizing my degree, so I took a chance and applied with Sentinel, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. Sentinel is not a typical work environment. My manager is truly a mentor to me, I can bounce ideas off her, ask her for guidance, receive real feedback, bring any questions/concerns/comments--it truly is an open dialogue between us that cultivates a very collaborative environment. This type of environment breeds trust between managers and their team, which in turn means employees have a lot of autonomy and are encouraged to think outside the box. As simple as it sounds, what I appreciate most about Sentinel is that they say “thank you”. My manager is quick to compliment my work, thank me for my effort, thank me for a job well done, even just everyday tasks, she always goes out of her way to show she recognizes what I do & lets me know she appreciates it. Beyond my direct manager, managers and other employees across the company have gone out of their way to commend me for work I have done. From sending me an email, to stopping me in the hall, they have taken the time to say “good Job” and thank me for my contributions. It makes me feel both valued and appreciated. More than that, it makes me feel invested in Sentinel, I am not just a number or a face, I am an integral part of the team. When I look back at previous positions I held, I can’t really recall ever having an experience where managers were so in tune with their employees and really recognized their contributions the way I have experienced here. The attributes I detailed above make me excited to come to work every day. Even on hard days or bad days, I know I have a whole support system here that is ready and willing to work with me to get the job done. Most companies strive to create the family atmosphere Sentinel has ingrained in their culture. I can already see the growth in my professional life, and look forward to continuing that growth and my career with Sentinel.

Cons

In terms of my position or work environment there are not any real "Cons" that stick out to me. I would suggest expanding programs such as "Rookie of the Quarter". It was really well received by the Sales team, so I think rolling it out to other departments would be awesome!

Thank you for sharing! It's great to hear from a current employee that the values of our mission statement are still very much felt in their day-to-day roles. Especially, that the management team is not only supporting these ideals, but are really incorporating them into their interactions with their teams. We're glad to hear the "Rookie of the Quarter" was so well received! We agree with your suggestion of expanding similar programs to other teams. Again, we really appreciate you taking the time to submit your feedback! Thanks for being part of our team!

Pros

The management and executive team genuinely care about the employees well being. I am one of many that have been with the company for over 10 years and have always felt that the company were on my side and wanted me to grow personally and professionally. They try to keep the family culture going with a company that is continuing to grow. Classic work hard play hard too

Cons

Business is business and sometimes decisions have to be made for the company well being that can't be helped. When it comes though I have seen Sentinel try to help out individuals as much as possible

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Sentinel! We are proud to have employees, like yourself, who have grown their career with us. The family atmosphere you mention is a key piece of Sentinel, and a value we have tried to keep at the center of what we do, even as we grow and expand across the country. It's good to hear you still feel it in Sentinel's culture! Again, thank you for being part of our team and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. It is greatly appreciated!

Pros

Good Solutions Architects, engineers and sales folks.

Cons

Management supremely favors those who have been established there. High turnover for sure. When I was there, they had antiquated practices and outdated methods of sales and forecasting. HR is a joke has has no clue on many things HR would need to be privy on. Management lied when they promised to train and groom new employees only to dismiss them with no prior warning - very cavalier, unprofessional, subtle and disingenuous.

Our mission for our employees is to create a work environment that encourages creativity, fosters growth and rewards success. These are the core principles we use as a foundation to make sure we are setting up each team and every team member up for success. For our SA team, we strive to foster their growth through peer mentoring, internal training, partner trainings, certification courses, and exposure to multiple customers. We have found this combination of activities to be very effective and we are disappointed to hear your experience was so different from so many other team members in terms of fostering growth. The methods and tools used by the Sales team do not always make sense to those outside the department, but we can assure you we are using the same principles for that team to set them up for success—which includes implementing the most efficient and effective processes possible. Our employees are family which makes your “Advice to Management” particularly painful to read. We have internal paths in place to voice concerns to direct managers - along with escalation all the way up to the Senior Management/ownership team - because the opinions of our employees are so important to us. Based on your concerns, it appears these paths were underutilized and led you to feel disconnected. Thanks for your feedback. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
