Pros

Technology HR Staff good at working to increase employee morale Decent Salary Good Benefits

Cons

The integrity of this company is very questionable. The lie to their customers about what they can provide them, which then leaves them scrambling trying to find the resources to do so. They also lie to their employees about what they expect from them, but when they oversell their abilities to their customers they expect the employees to act like they know what their doing. That was very hard for me because integrity is really important to me. I was really disappointed when realizing this low integrity because I had really wanted to work for this company for a very long time.

Integrity is very important to our culture here at Sentinel. We play a very important role in the operations of our client’s business, without integrity, we would not be able to hold the role of trusted advisor across industries, states and organizations. In addition, our reputation and strong commitment to excellence has allowed us to enjoy top partnerships with the biggest names in technology. Without our partnerships, without our clients, without a strong culture that attracts top talent, we would not have been able to recognize the success we have over the past few decades, all of this falls back on a strong reputation that includes a high degree of integrity. We appreciate the key benefits you highlighted in the “Pros” section. Those are important, and it’s great to hear they were fitting for the position.

Pros

If you are in a technical role, Sentinel will give you a workout. You will get a lot of exposure very quickly, bearing in mind that most of their clients are small or mid-tier. A lot of people have used Sentinel to get a start in consulting. Some of the insiders at Sentinel reportedly make a lot of money. There is some good engineering talent, as you would expect at a Cisco channel partner.

Cons

I have been around the block, and have never seen an organization with more of a split between the insiders and everyone else. The company is very set in its ways, and treats non-insiders as highly expendable. Training consists of throwing you in and seeing if you can swim. Zero perks, and I mean zero. Work conditions are the worst that I have experienced in my IT career, and God help you if you make a mistake; the culture is extremely CYA. The issues cover not just the abysmal work/life balance, but how one is treated every day - the organization finds many different ways to telegraph that they really don't value you or your input. I've seen very high level engineers treated this way. And if you wonder why these engineers put up with it, the answer is that many do not, and there is constant turnover. Also, I have questions about the company's long-term viability - the people making the decisions all seem to have 20+ years at Sentinel and are out of touch with industry and market conditions. I would have to say that this is known through the grapevine in local IT circles, too (ask around). For anyone thinking about taking on a technical role at Sentinel, then, I would really urge caution. And look at these reviews carefully and note 5* reviews are generally by current employees, and are generally one or two liners - draw your own conclusions there. Indeed, many negative reviews seem to disappear. We will see if this one survives.

Sentinel has been in business just shy of 35 years. Recruiting and retaining a very talented team of employees is vital to our ability to deliver an uncompromising customer service experience, and implement best in class business solutions for our customers, many of whom have between 500 and 5,000 employees. We take feedback - both positive and negative - of current and former employees very seriously. For example, the creation of supplemental sales training resources and a streamlined recruiting process have resulted from current employee feedback as well as reviews from forums like Glassdoor. Glassdoor is a great tool for us to use to keep our finger on the pulse of how our organization looks to current and prospective employees. We would encourage anyone who does not understand how Glassdoor works to read the Glassdoor Community Guidelines for a better understanding – in summary, businesses on Glassdoor do not have the ability to delete or remove reviews. Technology is our core business. As noted in this review, we have many great, technically talented team members who have experienced great success with Sentinel. We’re proud to have teams from pre-sales through post-sales, boasting incredible resumes in the industry as well as holding industry leading certifications and qualifications. Because they are so important to us, we offer them continued education and industry training allowing them to continue to grow and advance. Turnover at Sentinel has been relatively rare in an industry that typically experiences relatively high turnover rates - our average tenure of any team member is well above industry averages. Work-life balance is a topic of conversation across all tech organizations. We are no exception. Our approach is an open dialogue between all levels of management and their teams. Our open door policy has yielded great communication around not only what we are doing well and where we can improve, but more importantly, solutions they think would work best for their teams. These have played a key role in our continued efforts to foster a productive work-life balance. For existing, new or prospective technical talent, we believe our continued dedication to career advancement, open dialogue, elite partnerships, access to clients from mid-size to enterprise—across verticals, and dedication to continuing to grow in the right direction, are key differentiators in the industry.

Pros

Free soda is great! Also enjoy the vintage office chairs. Starting out here is important to get on the right team - If you are part of the "swamp" then you can ride the wave and live large. You can look forward to sitting in meetings that have some value or direction however you will learn more about all the latest about your vendors and past employees. The marketing team is out of this world bursting with ideas! The brochures are from a vintage collection dating back to companies early years, your electronic copies are designed with word and best suited for a fax market to local elderly care facility directors. Your manager will provide you with your " Sentinel Pitch" and ask for you to give it at any time. This will keep you ready for battle at any given time ( *Disclaimer* Some managers may not accurately give "The Pitch" )

Cons

Leadership has very poor control of the company branches and branch level management. The training is comparable to a set of IKEA instructions written in white ink. Not a good choice for anyone that is looking to have dynamic experiences and broaden your skills, become part of "team" or long term employment. No house accounts provided to new employees. Project side of the company over works the technical guys most projects are riddled with problems, delays and customer satisfaction performance issues. Unprofessional language, poor attitude towards women My prediction is this company will be sold within the next 24 to 36 months.

We’re disappointed to hear the experience of this former employee was not favorable. We do not have a ‘Business Development Manager’ title at Sentinel, but based on other comments in this review it sounds like this individual worked in Sales. Sentinel has high expectations for our team members. In Sales, we look for sales reps who are proactive in their approach, and have a compensation packages that rewards their hard work. We also provide the resources they need to assist their clients. Each Sales team member receives tremendous support from across the company: pre-sales engineers attend calls and design solutions; administration provides materials and all customer facing documents; a large and talented group of technicians performs implementation; project managers organize and manage delivery of those solutions; and post-sales support ensures continuing care is provided. This team approach sets us apart from other organizations, and has been highly regarded by our sales team. As we continue to grow, keeping the connection between offices, departments and teams will remain a cornerstone of Sentinel culture. We have a Sentinel Sales Manual available on our internal portal for our teams to access and use as a supplement to their training. For general Sentinel marketing information, all of our offices have custom one-pagers that match our overall design concept - these are professionally printed and crafted for our clients. Our new website design was met with positive feedback, and we continue to add and grow the site, especially on the customer facing side. We also have a very, very active presence across all major social media outlets to connect with partners, clients and employees. While it is always disappointing to hear that our efforts have fallen short as expressed here, we are proud to have such a strong rating among our clients and our employees and we will consider this feedback in our continuous quest to make Sentinel an outstanding place to work.
