Pros

The Simplot (Portage La Prairie, MB) plant seems to have a good culture and good management. The starting wage/salary is at or above industry standards. There is room for growth and the plant has operated through the covid-19 situation without any layoffs. The company offers a free shuttle from various points in Winnipeg to the plant and back.

Cons

From a maintenance perspective, planned shutdowns have been reduced which leaves us in a tough position for preventative maintenance. The location can be a problem as well. A 45 minute highway drive from Winnipeg and occasional highway closures in the winter can be problematic.

Pros

Helping to feed people is a great mission. The company culture if very family friendly and they have a great work life balance. Great retirement program and benefits.

Cons

Salary is below market average and they dont let people work remote. Management is a little too nice sometimes. There are people who are low performers who have worked there a long time but they dont do anything to keep their performance up.
