Pros

Very few good people. All the best ones have left the company.

Cons

The people who used to make this a positive, motivating place to work are no longer here—many were pushed out or discouraged by HR’s handling of internal issues. In one case, a strong performer was labeled as “underperforming” without any clear evidence or documentation, and was pressured to either “improve” or face termination. Situations like this have created an atmosphere of distrust and low morale. HR relies on policing rather than supporting employees. If you’re not at your desk every moment, you may become a target of their bullying tactics Work–life balance is not supported. There’s an implicit expectation that personal responsibilities take a back seat to work demands. No real path for growth. The promotion framework exists on paper, but moving up is dependent on subjective approval rather than actual achievements. Avoid this company if you need an environment that acknowledges your life outside of work or genuinely invests in your development. There is little support, limited growth, and employees are treated impersonally. Review the experiences of others—they’re accurate.

Pros

There are candidly only 2 pros I would say about this place. The first is that they hire mostly great people. Some of the people I met at Sonar have become some of my closest friends. And the second is the annual kickoff in Europe, which probably won’t last forever. The product is well known in the space.

Cons

Sales leadership is unprofessional and abrasive. There is absolutely no training on the product, and when asked for help the direction I received is to go look at the website. The culture of the organization is becoming a boys club with very clear favoritism in every team/department. Management treats employees as if they are children, as an example no one is allowed to leave before 5pm. There is a real lack of a human element here, as an example, asking to leave early by one hour to take a child trick or treating on Halloween is met with pushback. Career growth here doesn’t exist.

Thank you for your candid feedback regarding your experience. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective on our culture, leadership, and training structure. It is validating to hear you acknowledge the strong quality of people we hire and the reputation of the Sonar product. This is what Sonar thrives for! We recently rolled out enhanced Product Knowledge training across the entire company to ensure every employee, regardless of department, is energized and knowledgeable about the value we deliver. This includes structured resources and ongoing access to expert teams. A system built to prevent the frustrating experience you described. Also, we are encouraging our managers to exercise appropriate judgment and flexibility, recognizing the importance of work-life balance and prioritizing output over fixed hours. We appreciate this hard-to-hear feedback, as it serves as a critical checkpoint on our journey. We are focused on ensuring that the experience you had is not the experience of future or current Sonar team members.

Pros

- Culture. There is minimal effort in creating this extraordinary culture we have. I won't go into detail on just how freaking cool it is (you'd have to come see it for yourself). - People. From day one, I've noticed how truly happy the people are. Good vibes the minute you step into the office. This is true all across the board for our French, Swiss & US office. - No BS. With many aspects within the company, the people, the product, the day to day; you will get genuine response and actions from everybody. We believe in a clear, no BS communication. Which I really respect and am behind 100%. - Career growth. At SonarSource, if you have a curiosity or desire to learn about another teams' project, you can simply ask to step into their meetings. I think this is a great way of encouraging others to learn more of the company as a giant machine or even to inspire you to seek your career in another team. It has also been done already! We have some colleagues that have moved teams since they've started. Our People and Culture team really helps you with achieving any career growth. -Inspiration. Personally, I haven't worked for a company that's as inspiring as SonarSource. Being surrounded by intelligent, goal-driven people has inspired me tremendously. - Travel. Visit Geneva at least once a year! I could go on and on about the pros. In conclusion, cool people, great product, awesome culture.

Cons

Not really a con, but something from experience. The flat organization is as others said "bumpy" to get used to. So I feel this isn't something for everybody. You have to come in with an open mind and leave your ego to fully embrace the culture. It truly is unique!
