Sonic Healthcare US - Undergoing Mismanaged Transition
Pros
Please note that this review is specifically about the US division of Sonic Healthcare. If you work for the darling lab in Texas, you have a shot at making it. In any other location you could be offered up as a sacrifice to the gods of the bottom line with little or no notice. A lot of change means there may be opportunities for the right person, if you can stomach the politics. The company is a mess, so there are plenty of challenges to keep you engaged. Compensation is decent for some, but not for all employees. Some are grossly underpaid. The Australian management team seems decent, and they may have a long-term plan. They may be clueless about how badly the US management team continues to screw things up.
Cons
Please note that this review is specifically about the US division of Sonic Healthcare. This is a company in transition, and they are handling it very poorly. Rampant downsizing, rumor-mongering, unwarranted persecution, unfounded accusations, and gross distortions of the truth, even outright lies, are normal. The sad part: This comes from the highest levels of management. You just can't trust what you're told. Upper level management seems determined to sabotage some labs. Certain divisions of the company are primed for destruction due to mismanagement by the US corporate group. Good people are driven out or fired. Political maneuvering is a necessity to make it. If the wrong people dislike you, you will not survive. You are encouraged and expected to participate in the persecution of those who are disliked. Morale is in the toilet in some locations. Good luck following company policy as an employee. If they have a written one, they sure don't follow it or share it with employees. HR is NOT your friend at this company. They do not have the pulse of the company. You will be lucky if you ever meet anyone in HR prior to the day you are kicked out the door.
