Pros

Loved the people I worked with. The sustainability field brings together a lot of awesome people and very talented individuals.

Cons

No 401k No incentives Expect a raise of less than 50 cents No real engineering or design. Mostly everything is automated and becomes extremely repetitious. The pitch to everyone was that they would be able to move up in the company, but there were no new opportunities within the first 10 months in any position. Additionally, they hired individuals with a lot of talent but didn't respect their opinions. Constantly required to correct PV layouts for sales people that are trying to take advantage of their customers. This was brought up multiple times, but nothing was ever mentioned or any action taken to correct it, which led me to believe it was purposeful. That is when I made the decision to leave. I wanted to help people and solve problems, but that's not what the job was.

Pros

It's a great place to start if your coming out of school and need an "in" into the office environment. You'll also have a sense of satisfaction knowing you're helping build up renewable energy infrastructure. They are trying to improve on most of the things pointed out in the "con" section and they are good at listening to feedback. They have been publicly traded for about 2 years and are still getting used to having to please stockholders while maintain company morale. I have faith that they'll figure everything out.

Cons

Management is completely disconnected from the job and duties therein. No one on the supervisory level (even the people in charge of training and process development) has done the job themselves, therefore they are clueless when you come to them with questions and will often just guess. You'll learn to rely on your team members for resolving issues. To boot it they are CONSTANTLY changing ("improving") processes which results in mass amounts of confusion. Working hard and covering your duties MIGHT get you a pay raise but it won't get you promotion. The highest paid person in my department (and first in line for a promotion) spends a better part of the day fooling around playing games while the people who really drive results and crush their job are turned down for promotions on a regular basis. Think Office Space. Not much time to live your life outside of work. OT is expected and they regularly ask employees to come in on Saturday (although you can just say "no"). No work from home options.

Pros

For the first few months I was in love! Lynn is a super lady and excellent leader and visionary. I've devoted my career to the industry and Sunrun seemed like the place to be, at first. The overall vibe is very good and they have some super people who work very hard and have a great attitude. Their fleet operations management is excellent.

Cons

Unfortunately they've hired and retained some really bad management in Engineering & Product Management. Despite a ton of negative feedback on Employee Satisfaction Surveys (mine and others I talked to), the same toxic people are still there doing the same things six months after I left. This has led me to believe that upper management doesn't care as long as the trains run on time. They have lost a lot of good people and they seem to be rationalizing it instead fixing the problems. I'm amazed at the amount of negative feedback on this site, considering the apparent state of denial (or apathy) of upper management. Do they read any of this stuff??? You wouldn't know it from working there. Lynn once said in an all hands (paraphrased) -- "You may notice a lot of people leaving the company. What we're doing is hard. Some people will burn out." Well, I have to say that management there is intentionally making it harder than it has to be and they're losing a lot of good people as a direct result.
