Pros

That's a tough one right now because we are laying off people and it's not always done in a fair mannor. Right now it's not clear who is running quality the VP says one thing about layoff and HR does another thing. It's supposed to be based on performance. In the past when things are good Cessna is a good place to work, but when the economy starts turning bad everything changes. Its everyone for themselves because of lay offs. Some departments keep employees up dated on communications, but some really don't.

Cons

Alot of buddy buddy type activities still run the place.

Pros

Each department that I have worked for treats people right. You're not a number, you're a person and treated as such. It's more like working for a small company within a larger one! Also we are part of Textron and usually create the lion-share of the profit for them. It's good to be on top!

Cons

It's in the aerospace industry, we have a cyclic nature. Here in 2009 we are being hit harder than some others, but it always seems that we bounce back. Also since we are a Textron company, sometimes we get "hit" because of other businesses they own.

Pros

The wages' and benifits' are very good compared to alot of companies.

Cons

I don't know how it is in Wichita, but the service centers acrosss the country they treat you like a number and not a person. I felt that company did not value the work that we did. Maybe it's because in Kansas they are union and the outlaying centers are salaried non-exempt employees. It was more of a philosiphy of " work harder, work faster and you're going to work the weekend, right?". A comment was made by a senior management that they could replace us with a bunch of trained monkeys to do our jobs! At least that was the rumor that was spread. I personally did not hear it. But the way I was treated, I can believe it. I was pulled into the service center managers office and told that " I did not impress him with my work ethic and professonalism". This was after 12 years of service and not one negative review. I had lead our center for four years in the amount of overtime put in. And changed shifts to be the lead mechanic, at there request. And my manager tells me he is not "impressed"! To say the least I was very confused and disappointed. Why would you put a person you do not feel is worthy in a position of leadership? If he is not meeting your expectations, on three seperate occasions. You can do well at Cessna if you are given the right atmosphere and connections. Good Luck.
