Pros

Money was fairly consistent but not great for bartending (you can rely on business coming in due to company reputation), very comprehensive training, lots of opportunity for upward movement if you want to have a career within the industry. The benefits are pretty good.

Cons

Pretty typical corporate experience. The culture there is weird, very intense. There is a huge push to buy into the 'cheesecake culture'. I guess this is ok if that's your thing. Just wasn't mine. Lots of job responsibilities. Lots of rules. LOTS of prep work. Cleaning duties/prep often kept you hours past your out time. Bars at these places are usually small, max amount of money you make is less than other bar gigs. Primary purpose to bartend there is to push drinks out on service bar for the rest of the restaurant, your patrons are inherently a secondary concern. Between the rules, the prep and the culture.. kinda sucks the fun out of the job. It was understood that bartending there was a stepping stone into management. You have to serve first before you get behind the bar.

Pros

Doesn’t take long to be eligible for health insurance. Usually plenty of hours to be had. Enjoyed working with about 95% of the staff and managers.

Cons

Was verbally harassed on a daily basis by another “senior” employee for WEEKS before management effectively “resolved” (huge eye roll here) the situation. Should’ve known this was a bad omen as it was my first month or two on the job. Was consistently praised for my ability to train thoroughly, yet somehow never received a timely performance review or raise. Was gaslit into believing I should be doing training videos at home for FREE... and made to feel like I was being unreasonable about demanding to be paid for completing easily more than 4 hours of videos. Someone make it make sense 🙃 Was told upon finding a new job that I was welcome back anytime (despite all this I tried my best to remain positive, but I’m sure my frustrations were felt). Upon being laid off from my new job after the pandemic, called to reapply for my old job and everyone was on board until I spoke with the same manager who refused to pay me. Suddenly they weren’t so big on being a “cheesecake family” and decided to turn me down, I assume because I made a lot of noise about not being paid for the aforementioned training.

Pros

Good company culture, busy, good money

Cons

Some of the managers for different reasons; but this is normal for any place of work
