Great hiring experience -- but benefits rollout too slow

Pros

Hiring Process: - the process was respectful, inclusive, and efficient - onboarding was thorough, and everyone on my team and HR was lovely to work with Working here (3 months in): - awesome teammates - everyone is so kind and respectful and quick to give each other props - the mission is at the forefront of everything and the work TNC does is impressive - hybrid/remote work feels seamless - leaders who I can believe in, all the way from my manager to the CEO

Cons

Hiring Process: - there were a few weeks-long gaps between steps - once onboarded, I realized that my health insurance benefits wouldn't start until the 1st day of the month AFTER my first full month of employment. This meant that because I started on the 15th of October, the benefits from my last job ended on the 1st of November, but my new benefits from TNC didn't kick in until the 1st of December! As I am the sole health benefits-recepient for my family, this meant my two options were: no one in my family has health insurance for a full 30 days, or I can pay an exorbitant amount to COBRA to keep my previous employers' benefits for 1 month. This also meant that I had to work at the company for a total of 45 days before receiving any health benefits. What a stressful, arbitrary gauntlet to put your new employees though! In the grand scheme of things, this 1 month without health insurance will soon be forgotten and overridden by all the great things about working at TNC, but I felt it my duty to call this oversight out so that hopefully HR can take a look at this policy and amend it to be more employee-friendly in the future.

Pros

Saving the planet is a great mission.

Cons

Donor base trends conservative and the organization tiptoes around it, executive level leadership is clueless (there's now a new CEO so hopefully that has changed) and the fundraising structure encourages siloing.

Too much talking, not enough doing

Pros

Great benefits (401K, health, etc)

Cons

Too much oversight from upper management; commits to diversity in words but not in actions; management does not listen to staff; spends too much money on enrichment for staff/board for a nonprofit
