Thanks for the review! I'm so pleased you are enjoying working for TNC! You're right - without having a clear path to higher positions it can get a bit stale, especially working in an organization with such tenured staff. However, we encourage you to think about your future at TNC. Look at positions in different business units, talk to your supervisor about your professional development, and enroll in various courses in our learning hub! We love our talented staff and want to see you succeed!

Pros

I have the opportunity to work with some of the smartest, nicest people every day. The scientists are doing true cutting edge work in programs that mean a great deal to the community. The benefits are really good, from medical/dental to holidays and PTO. That I also get to spend time in some of our preserves is icing on the cake because they are some of the most beautiful spots in the country.

Cons

There is a lot to learn and there is an abundance of information and policies, but not really an easy way to figure out what to do. However, every time a step is missed, people are very kind in how they get back to you. The corporate leadership all resigned shortly after I started, but the way they filled the gaps for the interim was very solid.

Pros

Good benefits, competitive salary, genuinely good people working hard on important issues, high level of awareness of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion and actively working to embed these principles into the conservation work and the everyday office environment.

Cons

Due to the historically flat hierarchical structure of the organization, individual programs/chapters can be run very differently and priorities can vary wildly from one program to the next. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that an employee's experience and success or failure with one program can be very different from another's. Also, balancing workload with available capacity is an ongoing issue. TNC wants to do it all but continues to struggle with having enough people to accomplish it all.
