Pros

This is not a typical sales job, it allows for creativity and working with people to achieve their design goals. It's a great fit for anyone interested in design or home improvement and is an excellent way to get started in the industry. You can build relationships with contractors and your good customer service, attention to detail, follow up, and hard work drives repeat business and the potential for big sales. It's a fast paced environment with no two days the same. You get to work in a best-in-class showroom where you know keeping the store and vignettes clean only helps sell the product. There is a lot of opportunity for advancement, for making money, and the size and growth of the company means options for geographic mobility.

Cons

Just like other retail jobs, the only con is the long weekend hours but that only allows for more sales and making more money.

Pros

The training manager was terrific. I felt I was properly trained in and given the appropriate tools and resources - I felt very excited and even proud to work for the company. Their benefits seemed decent, at least meeting the standards of anywhere else. They allowed you to play around with your own schedule a bit, and allowed you to play around with your job title. For example, since I was a design graduate student with interior design studies (although NOT an interior designer) - they allowed me to put "Interior Design Consultant" on my business card, even though my job title was "sales". It really helped me gain reliability from clients shopping around.

Cons

The assistant manager was very unkind, made derogatory comments, favored certain employees (as in - he was dating/sleeping with one of his employees), and I would even say border line sexist (made sexist comments both directly to me and also made sexist comments about the girl he was dating when she wasn't around to all his 'buddies' and 'GCs'!). Clearly all things that are very VERY wrong and undeserving of a managerial role (and higher rewards/pay!). At one time, the assistant manager even insulted my intelligence (actually called me 'stupid' to my face). When I brought all of this to the shop manager's attention, he "seemed" shocked - however - there was favoritism there, as well (because they were both "military brothers"). I was made to believe that it would be taken "care of right away!", when in reality, I think it was more of a "come on dude, don't say that kind of stuff" and nearly mocked the whole situation as if I was being uptight. What I was lead to believe was a great commissions pay-scale, ended up being a joke! Don't believe the hype when it comes to % pay increase after "meeting your mark". You only really get to make "real money" at a certain point (and for new comers like myself, who didn't have an extensive list of contacts/contractors to sell to - I rarely ever even hit my expected cap). Furthermore, everyone else was extremely territorial (which I understand, because it is sales) - yet, how else does anyone make anything more than minimum wage? I felt lied to, overworked, and under-appreciated (I had my Bach of Science, and spoke two languages!). All of these things combined, lead to a resignation effective immediately. Not to mention - I was actually sent a letter to be a part of a lawsuit because of other, similar poor treatment of another employee, their benefits, and their over times hours (I declined participation).

Pros

there is not any pros what so ever!!! this place is a horrible place to work. my coworkers were great though and have no issues with them.

Cons

no work life balance. very long hours, coworkers will take sales from you, everything has to be one by the book even if you have a different way of selling, you have to do online training which takes months to complete. on top of that you do it on your own time and DO NOT get paid for it.
