Wonderful Coworkers

Pros

Great projects, wonderful coworkers, good benefits, friendly field staff. Most Walsh jobs have amazing superintendents stick to one like glue and learn. The project staff talent makes up the terrible main office staff.

Cons

Behind the times with technology and approach to Construction. Empty promises about promotions. Constant carrot and a stick game with the VPs. Bonus is tied to the project close out, which could be years and that’s if the project makes money. VPs can decide to make zero profit to “get foot in the door” places. Your bonus is tied to the profit of the project and the VPs don’t care because theirs is tried to many projects.

No Career Advancement

Pros

Fun people, decent pay, good work/life balance

Cons

As others have indicated, don't hope for career advancement at this company unless you're a favorite. Office politics do dictate who gets promoted and who doesn't. HR doesn't take concerns seriously unless it has to do with unions and potential lawsuits. Management allows bad behavior and gives in when bullied by certain individuals. "Employee Development" is all fluff--only there to make themselves look good.

PA RBRP Not a Good Experience

Pros

NONE TO SPEAK OF: For the PA RBRP, there are no pros, and the "professionals" that they hire soon leave or are let go because the culture is one that caters to the project management staff and their inability to successfully manage this P3 project.

Cons

TOO MANY TO LIST ALL OF THEM: - Corporate Walsh apparently has no idea what is going on with PA RBRP otherwise it wouldn't be so poorly run - Wrong (inexperienced, egomaniacal) PMs who creating a hostile, non-productive work environment - They need people with PA DOT experience to run this project - not happening - No definition of roles or responsibilities to guide anyone on this project - Constantly re-inventing the wheel because someone had a "good" idea or is on an ego trip - This project needed better pre-planning and hiring practices - Inconsistent compensation/perks unless part of the chosen management team - Rely on newly graduated Bridge Engineers to run the builds and they aren't experienced to do it - Worst job EVER - but had so much potential
