Pros

There are some good people still there who truly believe in and practice the core values. Unfortunately those people aren’t the ones in any kind of position to help you grow in your career. The benefits are great, but you won’t get any help or support in choosing which plan is best for you and your family. The pay is decent, but largely inequitable among different employees and departments.

Cons

The first thing you should know about Zappos is that the only way to get promoted is to have the right person like you. You can belittle everyone else around you, but if someone who has the power to elevate your position likes you, you’ll be just fine. It doesn’t matter how much you network, how hard you work, how many ULearn classes you take, what previous experience or qualifications you have. None of that matters or is factored in when they decide who gets to join their “leadership team” in Kentucky. This has led to a swarm of people in positions of power who have 0 experience, 0 training, 0 qualifications, and 0 oversight. The C-Suite of Amazon bros based in Las Vegas has no clue what goes on in the Fulfillment Center and Photo Studio in Kentucky, so they rely on the feedback of these “leaders” to get a supposedly accurate depiction of operations and progress. It’s no coincidence that within months of Stacey Wagner and his friends from Amazon coming on board that suddenly the company was resorting to mass layoffs. With mid-level positions slashed and without any progression plans, they have effectively stunted the career growth of anyone who previously hoped to advance in the company. There are virtually no opportunities to grow your career there anymore. If you have a problem that needs addressed and you have the audacity to try and rectify the situation, you’re labeled a bad culture fit with a sour attitude while the problem remains unaddressed and festering. You only get 1 day of sick time per 3 months of work, so if you have any kind of disability or medical issues, you’re pretty much set up to fail because of such a terrible sick time policy that they like to say is competitive. Core Values are weaponized against employees to suppress us into silence. For example, employees are strongly discouraged to discuss their wages and are told it is a violation of the core values. The real core values that Zappos operates on now are blind obedience, toxic positivity, and nepotism. Do not fall for the facade of Zappos being a great place to work. It used to be. It simply is not anymore.

Pros

Benefits are amazing and you have the ability to take on new roles you know nothing about to learn.

Cons

Your job is never safe, upper management will do whatever they need to do to take you out. They pressure you to drink a lot. HR is extremely political and will do nothing if you complain about someone they want to protect. In fact, I’ve seen people get fired because they went to HR for issues. This company is not worth mental abuse.

Full of lies.

Pros

The benefits are great. Free food.

Cons

Pretty much everything else. They lie about being able to move around in the company. You can't unless you know people. They claim self managed but they pound micro-management like no other. They also preach about the culture. The culture is dead in that building. You end up taking a lot of stress home with you because of the way we are treated.
