A fundamentally flawed, demoralizing tech operation

Pros

- Biggest kitchen I've ever seen in an office space, regularly stocked w/ snacks, coffee, fruit and other options. - Business side genuinely seems determined to make the company a success. The culture seems vastly more positive in the non-tech departments. - Opportunity to learn some in-vogue technologies.

Cons

Where to begin.. The tech department is unquestionably the worst place I've ever worked. Management simply do not care about their employees, and employees simply do not interact with each other. Everyone is an island, aside from a highly influential clique close to management who employ an "us vs. them" mentality with their peers. Dare to stand up for yourself, and you will be ostracized. Favoritism and passive aggression toward those who 'don't fit in' are cultural mantras here. And then there are the death marches... sorry, projects. From the CTO downward, the management care about the bottom line only. They set ludicrous deadlines, both on a whim and without any consideration of the resources at hand. Developers are given little help on long-term projects and are expected to gather requirements themselves. Long hours are common. Sprint retros are an exercise in finger-pointing. And, if you ultimately cannot handle the demands of such an environment, you will neither be trained nor encouraged to work better. You will simply be replaced. Also, the only milk options in the fridge are either almond or half+half. Add another point for 'just plain weird'.

Pros

- Sometimes the free lunch is actually good. - Everyone in this office is very easy to talk to and work with. - What you are asked to do is clear. - You get to have meetings with the people running Thrive Market. Basically, updates that let you know what's going on - You can wear what you want. - Potheads, there is no drug testing.

Cons

- The pay is low. Retention is $15 and CS is only $13. You can't live in Los Angeles with this pay unless you have roommates. - For retention, Thrive doesn't make it very clear that there is a subscription involved. They should really do a better job of throwing that info in people's faces. Those calls and emails are nerve racking.

Pros

Thrive Market is a great fit for a certain type of individual. If you have no morals, zero ethics and enjoy bullying, then you would fit in just fine.

Cons

Do not choose to work here. The worst management team and structure I've ever had the misfortune to be part of. If you dare to speak out with an idea that goes against the status quo then you are fired, pronto. If you your face does not fit, then you are out, pronto.
There are so many Manager & directors for such a small company. Now think of the worst manager you've ever worked with, we've all had one from time to time. Now imagine a management structure where EVERY management position is filled with that worst manager. Not good!
Every negative review on Glassdoor is true, the positive ones are the from senior management or HR employees who have been asked to complete a positive review.
There is so much wrong with Thrive Market. The worst company I've ever had the misfortune to be associated with in my career.
I'm currently working my exit plan, otherwise I'd be very fearful of the repercussions this review will have.
