Pros

Strong mission, leadership is sharp, profits are up

Cons

In the past 3 months I've seen some of the most well respected and highly effective people laid off. Tivity henchmen/women have been pretty brutal about how they say bye.

Thank you for your feedback and recognition of our strong mission and sharp leadership team. We understand that change can be hard, and it’s especially tough to say farewell to teammates. We also know that sometimes change is necessary to move in the right direction, and we are proud of the talented team of individuals we have at Tivity Health who are passionate about making a difference in the lives we touch every day. We believe strongly in open communication and strive to help our colleagues succeed in reaching their personal and professional goals. We’re disappointed to hear that you feel some talent has been overlooked, and we encourage all of our colleagues to create individual development plans, so that we are not only aware of their career goals, but so that we can assist where possible as well. We wish you the best as you pursue your goals as well.

MSU vs Lie

Pros

There is not much to say in the way of Pros

Cons

There are two particular people who love to use the acronym MSU (Making Stuff Up). They learned that through one of their so called leadership training events. They actually think that using that is acceptable when all they are doing is calling people liars. I have overheard them say to their direct reports "now make sure your not MSUing in your mind about certain things going on here". Really! we are now policing employee's minds? MSU is just another term for Lie. It is offensive to use this with a direct report.

While it is true that many colleagues at Tivity Health use the acronym MSU (Making Stuff Up), your interpretation is incorrect. There is a difference between “Making Stuff Up” and “Assuming” – and when we say MSU, we’re talking about making assumptions. We expect our colleagues to be honest and to always seek to understand before making any assumptions. We are sorry to hear you feel offended by this phrase, and hope we’ve helped to clarify its usage. We’re also disappointed that as a current colleague, you do not have any “Pros” to share. We encourage you to communicate with us so we can help you work through any concerns or challenges you’re experiencing. As you are aware, our CEO has distributed his mobile number to every single colleague in the organization as a means to establish a culture of transparency and open communication. Please feel free to reach out to him.

It's a slippery slope these days...

Pros

Tivity Health (formerly Healthways) was a great company to work for. Despite being a large publically traded company they did seem to care about the colleagues. When Donato Tramuto took over he gave us hope, for an even better workplace but that hope has died. One per they provided was well-being programs and financial incentives for living and breathing the culture but working for Tivity and Donato is now a slippery slope.

Cons

As the culture changes to an ugly world full of fear, benefits have been cut and there is never solace in knowing what tomorrow will bring, other than more fear of the unknown or to be clear, I should say more layoffs. Donato is so proud of his 'bonus' program but let's all remember the high taxes a colleague pays on 'bonuses.' Colleagues have always embraced change, and I have seen this over the past 10 years but the change now is not for the better. Donato and his 'puppets' who he brought in from his previous employment are setting this company up to sell. They are firing people who knew what they were doing and hiring people that they think have new ideas, which are not exactly 'new' to anyone other than the 'new' people. There used to be a time where people looked forward to retiring from a company like Healthways and there were recognition events to acknowledge their years of service, that is all gone! Donato and some others like to think the culture hasn't changed but boy is that false. The culture used to rely on trust in their colleagues, flexibility, empowerment and now every task is being micromanaged from the top down. Rumor has it that Donato and the board are setting us up to sell, we'll see.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We agree that our colleagues are dedicated individuals who work hard and are second-to-none in terms of their commitment to our customers and knowledge of the business. We are disappointed to hear about your negative experience as a current colleague, and hope that you’ll reconsider your outlook. In regard to some of the “Cons” you mention – Yes, our culture has changed; it’s become faster-paced and more collaborative, and there is a lot of work to be done to stay competitive in today’s marketplace. Yes – We’re proud to be able to offer bonuses as a reward for hard work, and we believe that these rewards recognize the success of both the company and our colleagues. That said, most colleagues would agree that paying taxes on bonuses received is better than having no bonuses at all, as previous to many of our organizational and cultural changes, there were little to no bonuses paid out for many years due to poor performance. Yes – We’ve brought new colleagues on board, and we’re also promoting from within—check out our recent promotions list in our recent internal newsletter! Furthermore, we’ve been hosting professional development sessions to help our colleagues expand their roles and grow, whether that’s here at Tivity Health or someplace else. Rounding out a team to align with key strategic imperatives is the responsibility of the CEO, and the current solid performance in all areas – (i.e: more investments into our current business in this current year than in any single year prior; growth in membership and new customer win backs; customer renewals; stock price) speaks volumes to the quality of our team and the investments being made to secure a solid future for the company. And yes – we’ve experienced change, and all companies do. Purposeful change is necessary to move our business forward and continue to provide value to our customers, members, and colleagues. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and advice, and assure you that we’re deeply committed to our colleagues, customers, members and most of all, our culture which is the driving force to our success.
