Pros

The company has many great, talented, and dedicated employees. We appear to have a direction now for the first time in many years, although not as good as when Mary Swanson ran the company. Donato has come on board and is trying to turn the company around to "Being the Best". Bringing back bonuses are great (although not if it causes jobs)! Partners love working with us and it's due to the great employees we have and the relationships we have developed with them.

Cons

I want to believe in Donato and started to think he means what he says. Either Donato doesn't know what his middle management is doing, or he's smart like a fox and talks a good game. Employees in this company don't know where they stand. There are constant layoffs and everyone lives in fear thinking they are next. It feels like the company is cutting everything to appear even more profitable just so they can sell the company for more profits for stakeholders, not caring how it affects their employees. Divisions don't know what each other is doing and how they can help each other with our overall goals. I don't recommend applying for this company until there is more stability. The company thrives on changing to change, and not changing with a long term goal. Every year, directions, goals, and ideas change with no input from employees, just to find out later that we go back to the way it was before (which wasn't bad).

Thank you for your feedback. I absolutely agree that we have talented and dedicated colleagues and leaders who are committed to making a difference and moving Tivity Health in the right direction. I regret that I didn’t have the opportunity to work with Mary Swanson directly, and based on what I hear, I can only imagine that she was an inspiring leader, as is our own leader, Donato. We recognize that transformation does require change, which can be both uncomfortable and frustrating, and that in times of change, clear communication is critical. The reality is that sometimes we won’t have all the answers figured out, and in an open, candid, and trusting culture—which I personally strive for—we should be able to share what we do know, and what we still don’t know, and ask our colleague to hang in there with us and help us to figure it out. This would also require that our colleagues trust enough to share their feedback, questions and concerns directly, so that they can be acknowledged and addressed. You make a great point about providing an organizational chart, and that is something our team is working on making easier for colleagues to access. We're also collaborating with our leaders to ensure alignment across the enterprise—and in essence, become easier to do business with internally. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns. –Bonnie Schirato, VP, Human Resources

Pros

Overall Tivity is a great company to work for. There have been quite a few changes in the last 2 years but we are focusing on great market research, listening to our clients, and providing for our members. Amazing product in SilverSneakers. Work/life balance for most. Donato is inspiring and has really brought new life into the business. Hiring the best and brightest. Internal communications are revamped. See videos of colleagues, weekly voicemail from CEO, and other email spotlights of the business often.

Cons

Lots of changes but all seem with good reason. Benefits are expensive. We stopped focusing on healthy meetings. We sit for hours because we have so much to do. The treadmill desk is an afterthought. Need to practice more of what we preach to our members. A select few senior leaders who have really negative attitudes and micromanage.

We truly appreciate your taking the time to provide feedback. As a colleague, I agree there have been lots of changes and for many good reasons. We are now obsessed about our members and customers and about improving our products and services with their input. And, Donato has definitely brought new life into the business, installing a transformational leadership culture that continues to bear fruit. We hear loud and clear your feedback about taking time to listen (seek first to understand), coaching (Situational Leadership), having the right technology to help us do our best work, and at this time of great growth and change, how important communication is for us all. We also take seriously your comment about attitude and micromanaging. No room for that in our shop. We hope you’ll continue to help model the way with your great attitude (and lead the way to having more stand up meetings!). And, find a way to tell us more about the micromanaging so we can get to the bottom of that. With your help as a caring colleague, we can get better. We hope you are able to take advantage of our best-in-class fitness offerings, both onsite and offsite, that provide gym memberships at no cost across the nation. Please get in touch with our benefits team who can help you with more info—if you need it. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and advice. Mary Flipse, Chief Legal Officer

Thank you for your feedback. I agree that it is very important to align business decisions with our company values. We’ve worked hard to develop, promote and hold ourselves accountable to living our core values in all of our interactions – with each other as colleagues as well as with customers, partners and members. I also agree that transforming an organization requires making tough decisions. Sometimes those decisions may impact tenured, passionate, results-oriented and respected leaders. And I know that can be frustrating without a clear understanding of “why”. These kinds of decisions require thorough and timely communication and what I am taking away from your feedback is that we need to assess how well we communicate changes. That is valuable feedback. Our senior leaders want feedback. Ideally, we’d like the opportunity to have open and direct conversations, though recognize that venues like Glassdoor are perhaps an easier way to express concerns. Either way, we take it seriously. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. In reading this response, you’ll notice something slightly different. My signature. And going forward, we’ll have other senior leaders respond directly to these reviews. I encourage you to reach out directly to one of us to discuss your concerns more fully. I promise we will listen and engage in a safe and productive dialogue – which is aligned with our core values. Robert Avinger VP, Culture and Transformation
