Pros
Good learning experience Hours are much less than public accounting
Cons
During the 2+ yrs I was there, I was yelled at by several directors. Managers lack communication skills. Management discouraged me from taking CPA exam maybe because manager didn’t have CPA? When requesting PTO, I was questioned where I was going. Any PTO longer than a week at any time, you need the approval of the VP. They require you to work on a weekend even when you have finished all your work to “get ahead”. If you speak up or disagree with your managers or directors, you’ll probably not get a bonus because I did not when I was there at all. No growth opportunity. Turnover is high and training is provided by staff so as a staff, I was constantly training. Managers say comments that are not appropriate. They treat people unfairly based on race and gender. They require new hires to work from the office everyday for 6 months and then it is up to manager approval to be allowed to work 1 day out of the week. Getting approval is very hard because mostly all of management likes going to the office. Senior director goes around from cube to cube whispering with managers for about 30-45 mins and walks around cubes checking on staff. On the other hand, staff are called out when they take a 10-15 min coffee or restroom break.
