Pros

Company started off very nimble and flexible, adaptable to change. Passionate about purpose and customer.

Cons

Completely has changed. Brought in upper management from failing retailers and they have implemented their own failed ideas. Company has completely lost its way. Added too much structure and we are no longer nimble... too much red tape. CEO speaks down to management and has created a difficult work environment. Many people are unhappy. Very little growth for employees as well. Upper management does not have their teams back either.

Pros

Pay is good. Benefits are good. They have a gym but I was so desperate to get out of the building everyday that I did not take advantage of it.

Cons

Torrid has one of the worst work cultures I have ever experienced. I have seen the CEO and President of the company yelling about the stupidity of her employees with her door open and to their faces. She has called people idiots, bad at their job, etc. This attitude trickles down to all levels of management. When you go to lunch with colleagues, the discussion isn’t about what exciting things you have planned for the weekend but rather who is worried that they are getting fired that day, who was insulted, who feels worthless and unappreciated, etc. during meetings, people talk over one another in a power play to see who can get the most credit for an idea. It is not a safe, collaborative vibe. HR will throw many parties but management is not happy if you actually attend. If you are sick, you better come to work anyway. A year after I quit, my entire former team is gone as well. I know people who took jobs that paid less and had a longer commute just so they could get away from this place. I personally quit without anything lined up because I would rather be unemployed than suffer any more time at headquarters. It really is a shame that the company doesn’t value their employees as much as they value their product.

Pros

I moved up fast, so I gained resume experience. Don't expect to actually be developed for the roles you'd like though. I got to go to California for a week to HQ, so that was a pro.

Cons

You're expected to work like you're on commission and sell credit, but you make no money; therefore, turnover is so high, and you constantly have to hire and train new employees only to do it again when they leave of dissatisfaction with the company. It's exhausting. I could never take vacation time because there was no work/life balance. Some stores only have a store manager and two part time assistant managers, meaning you are pretty much screwed if someone calls off sick, and the only person who works full time in the entire store. They give you no payroll, so you spend a LOT of time alone, responsible for clients AND tasks to be completed. I would be alone sometimes from 9am until 3 or 4, meaning no lunch break. Associates are only allowed an average of 3 hours for a shift... I had so many great candidates not accept a position because of that.
