Poor leadership

Pros

Solid products, and employees and a value for end users.

Cons

The diabetic products market is difficult. Medicare reimbursement decreases have made innovation and technology unjustifiable. It has also led to layoffs and poor working conditions. The employees are pressured for a business model that now is not what the HQ in Japan thought they had bargained for. That creates dissention. And it doesn't help that the company monitors employee communcations leading to a lack of trust. Scary place....

All the signs are there

Pros

Above average salary and benefits

Cons

Company is trying some quick fixes (lipstick on a pig) in an attempt to make the company appear more profitable and make up the $18 million that they are in the red. The company is for sale and all the signs are there (see below): • New policy of outlining daily activities • Lack of inventory • Cost Controls (delays in vendor payments, expense budgets cut, annual performance reviews delayed, no travel (except for executive team see below), layoffs and reduction in force) • Management stops communicating with employees and even avoids them • Increased meetings and travel only for the executive team only • Many office visitors that do not sign guest log and only interact with executive team The company purchased some of the buildings and invested millions in capital equipment but cannot figure out how to make test strips that can make it through quality. Many personnel are not even remotely qualified for their positions in education or experience. They were given the positions based on favoritism and how long they have been with the company (10+ years).

Beware office politics

Pros

Compensation is higher than average, but that may be about to change after recent shakeups in the company's reorganization.

Cons

Lots of office politics! If you're in the right clique, if you kiss up to the right person, you can advance through the ranks rapidly, or at least ensure you get good job performance reviews. I personally witnessed a bunch of workers piling into a supervisor's office just so all of them could play the supervisor's favorite online video game together during lunch, and this happened on a regular basis. The same supervisor, a married man with kids, was also widely rumored within the department to be having an affair with the secretary. That's the kind of toxic fraternization you can expect. With the recent reorganization, a different person is now calling the shots, but he is just as bad if you're not in the right clique. Do not expect a fair job performance review if you're not willing to kiss up to the right people.
