Pros

You are helping to pass important legislation which can actuallu help people. Also, you get to meet a lot of 2o-somethings.

Cons

In order to get hired, you must always have to be from a state where the Senator resides. Also, there is always the chance that your Senator will get vote out of office. What else? You really don't learn that much. You have to be pretty pro-active in learning things. But if your Senator loses re-election, get ready to work at a non-profit or some similar place. Most lobbying firms will not hire you unless you were a chief-of-staff or counsel for a committee.
