Archaic business model and systems they are pretending to "modernize" Inept senior leadership that is disconnected from front line needs Story tellers are the most successful, those who deliver are taken for granted Zero talent management or succession planning Inadequate industry knowledge in executive ranks

From Ethical to Unethical

Pros

A lot of great people still work there, the benefits are still good and the headquarters are beautiful.

Cons

USAA was a very employee friendly place when I started. The benefits were excellent, people mattered, they were heard, and it was a very collaborative atmosphere. Now, there is so much pressure that people are getting sick and managers just want you to work and shut up. SO MANY people are very unhappy. It has fallen very fast and unethical business practices are now very common. It is very sad.

Pros

great brand name and people, big company perks, 401k, in good years great bonus structure

Cons

HR does not do leveling correctly and you could end up as a senior manager getting paid less than your reports. HR is slow to fill roles, outdated compensation metrics, challenging to fill roles which lead to more turnover. This cycle will never end at a big company unless they fix these compensation packages for individuals. Can't compete with other companies in compensation and challenging to attract/retain great talent to San Antonio.
