Pros
Fun job, cool job title that you can brag to friends, good opportunity to make friends who like the outdoors
Cons
Management is very unorganized and inconsistent, there is clear favoritism, and zero employee loyalty. After three years of working as an employee, and becoming one of the more experienced raft guides at the facility, I (and many others) was terminated for violating a social media policy which I was not even aware existed. It turns out that the policy was introduced in the middle of the summer 2020 season and most staff were not informed of the new policies put in place, which seems rather inappropriate . Instead of holding a meeting and explaining to me how and what policies were broken and what steps could be handled, many employees were fired over email and given shallow explanations for their terminations. They removed a serious portion of experienced staff, when the center was already facing understaffing issues. From an employee perspective, it seems that there is some ill-willed things going on in higher management and HR and they treat the front line staff as expendables, regardless of how strong or loyal of an employee you have been. If you are looking at working here, I highly suggest expanding your search to other employers.
