Pros

Working with the behavioral health staff and advocating for the rights of the psychiatric patients served.

Cons

The ED staff of doctors and RNs are hostile and resentful of the psychiatric patients and behavioral health staff. Patient care suffers every day with uncaring, unmotivated medical staff. When MDs aren't responding in a timely manner to requests for patient care, but are found playing games on their iphones, there is a problem. When it happens repeatedly and management does nothing there is a major problem.

Pros

Pay is good. People really care. Room for advancement. You're positively affecting individuals lives and the nation's health and health systems simultaneously.

Cons

24-hour schedule with weekends and holidays makes for an unhealthy bouncy schedule. Working conditions are awful. Big issues in a big world makes the individual feel small. Tendency towards callousness within the office.
